SEASON SERIES NOTES
• Denver won the season series against Portland in 2018-19, 3-1. All four games were decided by single digits.
• In four games against the Nuggets, Damian Lillard averaged 21.3 points (37.1% FG, 28.6% 3-PT, 95.8% FT), 3.8 rebounds and 7.0 assists. Lillard shot 23-of-24 from the free-throw-line against Denver this season.
• CJ McCollum averaged 20.0 points (45.3% FG, 26.3% 3-PT, 100% FT), 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in three games against the Nuggets this season.
• In four games against the Nuggets, Al-Farouq Aminu averaged 16.0 points (50.0% FG, 31.6% 3-PT, 94.7% FT), 11.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.00 steal. His 16.0 points per game was his highest scoring average against a Western Conference opponent this season.
• Nikola Jokic averaged 25.7 points (62.0% FG, 38.5% 3-PT, 76.9% FT), 9.7 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.00 steal in three games against the Trail Blazers this season.

PLAYOFF SERIES NOTES
• Portland and Denver have faced each other twice previously in the postseason, with each team winning one series.
• The Trail Blazers and Nuggets are 5-5 against each other in the playoffs, all-time.
• The Trail Blazers defeated the Nuggets 4-2 in the 1977 NBA Western Conference Semifinals despite Denver holding home court advantage. Portland won the NBA Championship that year.
• The Nuggets took a five-game first round series vs. the Trail Blazers in 1986, 3-1.
• Former Trail Blazers Will Barton and Mason Plumlee have playoff experience with the Trail Blazers. Barton averaged 6.4 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 11.6 minutes in six games during the 2014 postseason vs. Houston and San Antonio. Plumlee posted averages of 7.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.00 block and 27.8 minutes in 11 starts vs. the LA Clippers and Golden State in 2016.
• The series is only Portland’s second playoff matchup against a divisional opponent since facing the Lakers in 2002 as members of the Pacific Division. Entering this postseason vs. divisional rivals Oklahoma City and Denver, the Trail Blazers had never faced a Northwest Division opponent since the division was formed in 2004-05.

CONNECTIONS
• Portland center Jusuf Nurkic averaged 7.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 139 games (59 starts) in two-plus seasons with the Nuggets. Nurkic was acquired by the Trail Blazers in exchange for Mason Plumlee and a 2017 first round pick on Feb.13, 2017. Plumlee averaged 9.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 136 games (all starts) across two seasons in Portland.
• Denver guard Will Barton was selected by the Trail Blazers with the 40th pick of the 2012 NBA Draft. He averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 144 games (five starts) in two-plus seasons with Portland.
• Trail Blazers forward/center Skal Labissiere and Denver guard Jamal Murray were teammates at the University of Kentucky for the 2015-16 season.

My problem with seeing us winning games against Denver is that they still haven't just started posting up MPJ, Gordon and Millsap on us. If they want to just grind this thing out... we're fucked.

This last game they just beat us at our own game and shot us out of the gym but they have things that we don't that they can take advantage of too and they just haven't yet. So yeah, I thought they'd beat us in 6 but if they win this game then we'll likely do what we've done under Stotts and lay down in an elimination game.

After tonight I've got no hope left. I'm as delusional a fan as they come (with the obvious exception of Eric), but that performance tonight killed me. Two max contract guards being outshot by Austin fucking Rivers in a home playoff game.

Hang in there man. Big changes coming soon.

You thought they’d beat us in 6? No, you thought we wouldn’t make the playoffs.

Yeah, I’m down too. For better or worse, it’s still a long series. Win on Saturday and we’ll feel much better.

Again my prediction was that we would make the playoffs but that we could very easily also miss them. I thought that if Denver beat us and if you were wrong and Utah and Phoenix hadn't rested against us, that we would have ended up in the play-ins where we could have easily lost to GS and Memphis. A lot of could haves that didn't happen and I wasn't surprised to see us in the playoffs because you can go back and look at every time I said we might miss them, I also said but we'll probably end up with the sixth seed. You thought fifth but what does it really matter with the kind of performance the team put in tonight?

You can go to the game one thread and click on the survey results to get my prediction.

I just want to know how teams like
Utah, grizzlies, Dallas, Phoenix, Boston, Atlanta and Denver already built much better teams around their stars. But yet we have guys like melo, Simons and apparently an unplayable kanter for our bench. Ridiculous

Fuck that game 3. Fuck Kareem Abdul Snackbar (Jokic) and fuck Denver.

Go out and win the damn thing, tie it up and we'll go from there.

We could be LAC fans and wake up in despair, then depressed for the remainder of the playoffs.

What's with the foul trouble? Tough to play defense when you are worried about foul trouble.

At least they took better care of the ball. Got plenty of good looks but missed pretty much everything until the last 2-3 mins of the game.

You won't see Austin Rivers make those shots two games in a row or even again this series. I like the idea of making someone other than Jokic beat them.

It's time to call a game "Must Win".

Gotta get this next one Blazers! I'm gonna try to go.

In my 'bet the way you think the NBA would want this game to go' method, I see the Blazers winning game 4.

  • Dame will get more than 2 FTs
  • Nurk won't foul out
  • Austin Rivers won't be the best 10-day contract guy in the history of the NBA
  • Stotts won't use Kantor as much....but may/is allowed/should put him in at the end when we HAVE TO HAVE A REBOUND.
  • Our defense will still be....well, meh, but we will "hit more shots"
  • We will be more balanced and Dame/CJ won't continue taking 50+% of all the shots

This thinking for betting would lose you a bunch so far this playoff season.
The NBA does not want a sweep of Miami or Boston. They do not want the Clippers out in the first round. I also cannot see them wanting the Blazers to lose their first Home playoff game in the last couple years?
It's kind of "Conspiracy" thinking and that obviously isn't the case? Unless we see huge meltdowns or reversals of fortune in the next week?

I thought about your betting on Blazer games reffed by Scottt Foster when I saw Chris Paul point out that he has lost 11 straight playoff games when Foster reffed the game.

The last game got me thinking about Denver GM and coach and ours. Both GMs signed a veteran mid season, Rivers and RHJ. Their coach made good use of Rivers and our coach didn't use RHJ, wasn't even in the 8 man rotation for the playoffs. MLE; we got Jones who hasn't played in the playoffs; they got Green who hasn't done much but was 2 for 3 on threes and had five rebounds in 17 minutes yesterday. They signed a tough experienced PG (Campazzo) early in the season; our GM doesn't think true PG's are important. I know that the Cleveland Browns are doing better now that coach and GM are on the same page. Seems like Blazers' aren't. Also, they may just be incompetent.

Isn't Campazzo a 30 year old NBA rookie? Maybe experienced in basketball but not the NBA. Lol.

All that to say I don't think you're wrong. Dunno what olshey is thinking sometimes.

As long as Kanter doesn’t play we’ve got a chance. I don’t even care anymore because you know Stotts isn’t gonna permanently bench him and we’re not going anywhere with him coaching us anyway, so making the second round would just be delaying the inevitable.
