This is actually surprisingly good! This is the GOOD Zeller - not Tyler!

Flashback to 2012 when the 2013 draft was being referred to as the "Cody Zeller draft"

I honestly think there's a lot of San Antonio fans who would gladly have paid Cody Zeller what they just gave Zach.

That is the question for me. Is he better than Kanter? If he is then we have improved.
Night in and night out, probably, but I don't see us getting to the WCF two years ago with Zeller instead of Kanter.

I have not seen that much of Zellar, but from what I've seen he's no more capable of defending people on the perimeter than Nurkic or Kanter are. I would have rather seen a more agile player bought with the tax-MLE

he cant be worse than kanter & whiteside

from what ive reading, he actually impacts the game and he can defend, but i need more confirmation

Good news is that Stotts lost us 20 games on his own last year, so even after this diaster, we should be about a 60 win team.
You do realize Portland is one of a couple teams that consistently beat Vegas win totals, right?

Yeah, but did anyone in their right mind think that that MLE was going to be a needle mover? Did anyone in their right mind think Dame was expecting the MLE to make a difference? We needed a backup center. We got one. This does not mean Neil is not going to trade CJ or DJ.
It just means that one of our many needs has been addressed.

Kanter + another position with our taxpayer mle is better than just the improvement of zeller over kanter.

Oh yeah what's the amount??

It could be for $1 million and I wouldn't care.

The one year is saying:

We want to run it back.

We think Dame may ask out in a year, so we want to give ourselves the chance to reset.

We won't trade our firsts because Dame may ask out.

The 1 year says why sign a guy like zeller for longer than that. Reading far too in to it, IMO.

I'm not aware of this stat, but I'd love to see the data if you have it.

Sounds like we should be a good bet when we open at 44 wins or something that.

This logic makes no sense at all. Because he did not commit more years to a backup center, Neil is going to run it back?
How you came to this conclusion based on this signing is either brilliant or....very much not brilliant.

No I think it's very clear. You don't do that with a veteran unless you have plans on possibly not wanting that veteran later.

Particularly one that, if he plays well, would end up being a bargain.
