If this is the TPMLE, which I think it is, committing the one major tool you have to a one year deal is a definite sign that you don't know what will happen the next year.
i think your reading too much into the contract length…. Did you want to sign him for more years..?
We're only a few hours into free agency and we've already started looking to the trade deadline hope!
I think we're probably in for a long year even if it is for the minimum. Though Zeller for the minimum is good value, which would be a step in the right direction.
I like it. Always been a fan of Cody's. Above average passer and ball handler for a center. Good screen setter. Like that he'll give us some continuity to the offense between 1st and 2nd unit. Can run delay sets and elbow split action / handoff stuff through him like with Nurk. Smart and mobile defensively. Injuries have slowed him a little and doesn't have the sheer size and length to battle the big centers or be super impactful at protecting the rim, but 0ften in the right spot. Has versatility to him as a pnr defender. If played with a secondary rim protector and some length + mobility on the wings he can get out and hedge and recover for you and it be effective. Health issues probably protends re-signing Kanter or bringing in another playable center though.
Yeah not exciting, but a bargain at the minimum. Also nice to have an above average feel guy for his position on the team. We have VERY few of those
This is going to be the most depressing season since 2000. Not because of wins or losses, but just with the knowledge that Dame is gonna leave and Neil will say "well we didn't have the assets" and GEE I WONDER WHOS FAULT THAT IS. Fuck Neil olshey for ruining it all.
And he's can very comfortably play 15-20 backup C minutes in the playoffs without being a liability. He's no Kanter on defense
