Did you get your opponent's wingspan measurements? Giving up strength and speed is usually a killer. Even if you were taller than him, you'd probably of been at a disadvantage. Now we know why your height vs. wingspan argument has never made much sense.
Way. Harris’ biggest knock is his ginormous contract - he’s a third wheel being paid like a mega star. Definitely on that Rudy Gay/Derozen tier. Thybulle will be a perennial dpoty candidate.
I bet you would've had just as much trouble if you were 6'5 with shorter arms. You don't play basketball with the top of your head. Having a longer or shorter neck doesn't mean anything.
Seems like Morey realized this. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nb...ion-deal-to-remain-with-the-sixers/ar-AAMYguK
Conversely, most of them can't defend him. I really don't think this is a huge issue - if you tempt them to post him up, then that fucks up the other team's sets and most SFs are shit at posting up. Do they just shoot over him? Sure - but good NBA players can shoot over anybody. Even Luka, who can't jump for shit, has a step back he can get on anybody.
Sixers playoff stats: Now, Thybulle might be better down the line. He's almost certainly a better defender already, and he's better suited for SF than Harris... BUT, it's unlikely Thybulle is ever as offensively versatile as Harris, and Harris is no slouch of a defender either. Thybulle's certainly a fuck of a lot cheaper...
"his fingertips are an inch further away from his core when fully extended so that makes up for his height". I don't care how much you preach about standing reach, as long as the basket is at 10' above the court instead of 4' above the court, 6'3 is at a disadvantage when guarding 6'8.
in my 'defense', when I said 6'7, I was thinking about a couple of a summertime pickup game when I was living in Eugene and the 6'7 guy I was 'guarding' was Greg Ballard (bbref). He was just a kid and I was a grown man....but it didn't make a difference. He wasn't even trying hard either if you're not a shot-blocker, standing reach doesn't mean much of anything. And defense isn't played with your arms fully extended horizontally
Giving up speed, size and strength. It’s almost as if… Wiz isn’t an NBA player and most likely isn’t an elite athlete either. I wonder how much Wiz and Norm Powell have in common. I am going to say your experience is about as meaningful as when I scored on Damon Stoudamire at his basketball camp.
You could argue that 6’8 is at a greater disadvantage when guarding 6’3 (with long arms.) Lower center of gravity, in theory should be faster, etc. Also, Powell isn’t exactly a “slight dude.” I do, however, primarily agree with your premise that height matters. I do think reach does factor in to negate some of it. Minimizing passing angles, contest shots with outstretched arms. There are definitely benefits. But I think the benefits of being taller are greater.
