Crazy shit going down lately, due to DA's that don't prosecute (catch and release) and police that can't do their job anymore.

This store owner tried to take matters into his own hands but ended up shooting a deaf 9 year old girl

Police getting record budgets, and still can't do anything other than harass people for money. I think it's time we try something else. Giving them more money has never actually helped.

And this is why so many people are more scared of the "Good Guy" who thinks he is carrying a gun so he can protect us all in these situations. When in reality most of them are just as dangerous as the bad guy they dream of protecting us all from.

Someone on Nextdoor just a few streets over posted that they had their cat converter stolen. I'm afraid to go out and start my car :sigh:

Its so bad out here in LA. I may install a shield to hopefully help prevent theft.

Starts at the top in every city. These Mayors and Prosecutors that are weak on crime with no improvement efforts or plan, vote them out.
People within cities or counties can have an impact by voting out politicians that don't make a difference. These are jobs that the people give them if they dont perform get rid of them. Regardless of race, religion, political affiliation, sex

My brothers pickup was stolen out of his driveway around noon a week or two ago in Canby. Found it across town in a church parking lot with the cat missing. The punched out the ignition drove it there cut off the cat and left it.

God it's annoying.

What were they trying to convert their cat to? Sounds like animal cruelty to me.

Take cat from car, follow owner to mechanic, sell cat to mechanic, profit!

People are stealing peoples Cats now? I would never allow our cat to sleep in our car.

I just want to say that I love your stuff!

I did read somewhere that the metal recyclers aren't paying for catalytic converters anymore and that they're being sold to local mechanics.

This is where we need our legislators to step in and make it illegal to resell catalytic converters. I know lots of guys who go fishing and come back to the boat ramp to have them missing from their trucks. It is a big deal and getting old.

A law punishing desperate people isn't going to solve this. Nobody is getting rich stealing cats.

No but lots of people are loosing a lot of money replacing their cats when the desperate people steal them with no fear of consequences. If you punish the businesses who are buying them and take away the market it will curb this issue. As long as businesses continue to be allowed to buy stolen property it will continue. Go after the buyers and it will solve the problem.

We already have laws punishing businesses as well as the thieves... I'm simply saying holding out hope that more laws will help anything is wishful thinking.

This problem isn't going to go away until we address our problems with poverty...

At this point it is not illegal for the business to buy the catalytic converters. They don't ask where it is from, so until they make it illegal for the business to buy used cats it will continue to happen. It is $500 plus for a person to replace their cat.
