There needs to be a better system at the border. No one will disagree on that. But, the migrants being homeless and hungry doesn't absolve DeSantis from using them as political pawns in a terrible attempt to own the libs, which blew up in his face.
As if following the charters of Arizona and Texas makes it right for Florida....fuck the Republicanistan Party
DeSantis has claimed redirecting migrants "at the source" to sanctuary jurisdictions, "the chance to end up in Florida is much less."
DeSantis is new god emperor. Everything he does is righteous, or good politics, or not his fault. When you classify someone as other, anything done to them is justifiable. When you classify someone as superior being, anything theu do is justifiable. If DeSantis shot someone on Fifth avenue would ABM defend it?
There were enough to elect Trump, who was guaranteed to be a shit show at the very least. Now those who lost faith in Trump are looking for the next dirt bag. There is enough voter suppression that DeSantis couls win. As much as I hate to say it.
Bark all you'd like, call it a stunt....I don't really care. There really are some more pressing needs on our southern border, and I believe DeSantis is forcing some issues. While political affiliation had much to do in this recent poll, one can't truly deny that there are serious issues at our borders. Can they? https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/news-polls/npr-immigration-perceptions-august-2022 Washington, DC, August 18, 2022 – Over half of American adults believe it is either completely or somewhat true that the U.S. is experiencing an invasion at the southern border, according to a new NPR/Ipsos poll. Moreover, half believe there is at least some truth to the view that migrants bringing fentanyl and other illegal drugs over the southern border are responsible for the increases of overdoses in the U.S. These statements, and others like them that were tested in this survey, shed light on how misleading information or politically charged rhetoric about immigration has taken root among a significant portion of the American public. Overall, perceptions about immigrants and immigration policy depend heavily not only on one’s party affiliation, but also their media consumption habits.....
The problem with stunts like the ones DeSantis and Abbott have pulled is that it has put all the attention on them and very little on the issue they are hoping to fix. Just my guess, but they probably knew that too! There is a crisis down here, has been since I've been here and quite honestly, a lot longer than that. Solutions are not easy but I know stunts like the ones pulled recently did little to nothing to help.
Going on a year for this thread, I wonder, have any "Never Trumpers" been convinced that they should bet on DeSantis? I doubt it.
Why DeSantis and not Abbott? Texas is a bigger state. Abbott hates gays and immigrants. The idea of shipping immigrants around was originally his. Texas' anti-woman law is more stringent than Florida. Voter suppress stricter. Texas has banned even more books than Florida. So what does DeSantis have over Abbott?
Here's what Politico, a left-leaning website. has reported (from the Senate Republican Conference) regarding the Biden Administration's effectiveness at our borders: https://www.politico.com/f/?id=0000017f-d8bd-d522-ab7f-debd59400000 BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS IS THE WORST IN AMERICAN HISTORY HIS POLICIES CONTINUE TO MAKE IT WORSE Oh, and here's a fun graph... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61989673
What impact did those stunts have on any real progress of fixing the problem? Everyone has known it's an issue for decades, so what good did it do to ship those people half way across the country as a 'gotcha' moment? Sorry man, I try real hard not to pile on because you get it enough from everyone else here but Abbott and DeSantis need to take the big L on those moves.
Because it's bringing the whole situation back into keen focus right before the mid-terms. Let's see how it all pans out. None of those 50 are being mistreated as far as I know. Probably doing much better than they would be in San Antonio, or wherever.
