The Yankees and Anthony Rizzo have agreed on a two-year contract worth $34 million, The Post’s Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman confirmed. The Athletic first reported the news. The deal includes a third-year club option and a $6 million buyout, giving Rizzo a total of $40 million guaranteed.

Rizzo, 33, had opted out of a deal that would have paid him $16 million in 2023 to become a free agent. The Yankees then gave him a one-year, $19.65 million qualifying offer.

Thank God we have a Gold Glove 1st Baseman, to dig balls out of the dirt and make everyone look good in the process! Not to mention, he can hit too. Let's just hope Rizzo remains healthy!

Some good news to start off the free agency period.

IKF signed a one year $6 Million dollar deal avoiding Arbitration for 2023.

Lou Trivino also signed a one year contract for 4.1 million dollars, also avoiding Arbitration.

Yankees added Minor Leaguer Randy Vasquez to 40 man roster, protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. Vasquez pitched in AA Somerset FLA., last year.
Vasquez started 25 games last year, and only averaged 4 &1/3 to 4 &2/3 IP.
Here's one of the major glaring weaknesses of Yankee philosophy concerning Starting Pitchers, i.e., they bought into the paradigm shift of starting Pitchers barely being able to pitch 5 innings, or just enough to get the win, if they're lucky.

Yankees also plucked Junior Fernandez as a Rule 5 Draft pick away from Pittsburgh.

Some of these insane signing are probably gonna drive up he price tag in order to resign Judge.

Cubs, Jameson Taillon agree to 4-year, $68M deal
At first I was perturbed that we didn’t resign him, even though he wasn’t terrific for us (some of which I blame our inept manager for) but then I saw how much he signed for and didn’t mind it one but he went elsewhere.

Still need a pitcher. We will see if they're in on Rondon.

Rodon will likely garner big money. Though he's not a lefty, I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanx make another run at Pablo Lopez, who would still be under team control for next 2 years.. Yanx have the trade chips and have a history of dealing with Miami. Maybe package Donaldson and Torres along with prospects ?

Seems to be some Carlos Correa noise regarding the Yankees. We shall see.

Here's another player that I'm glad we didn't sign;

Giants, Carlos Correa agree to 13-year, $350M deal

IF Correa had of signed with the Yankees, I would of disowned the team I've been a fan of my entire life.
Even IF he gave 3 quarters of his salary to charity, and branded himself with the interlocking NY between his eyes, even IF he purchased a block of 500 tickets for each and every home game, and gave those tickets to Little Leaguers and fans who could not afford a ticket.
Even IF he paid a penance by swimming around the entire periphery of the great white shark infested Channel Islands, 50 miles off the coast of California with only a pair of flippers and goggles, with chum lines attached to his body while swimming 1000 miles. IF he survived I would still dislike the cheating bastard!

C'mon Matts, tell us how you really feel. :biglaugh:

Rodón, Yankees far apart

After re-signing Aaron Judge last week, the Yankees "top priority" is lefty ace Carlos Rodón, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Per the report, Rodón is looking for seven years and $210 million at minimum while the Yankees don't want to go that high in years and/or average annual value in dollars.

Furthermore, it's unlikely the Cardinals would shell out the years and money Rodón is coveting at this time, according to The Athletic. St. Louis has been connected to the lefty in recent days, even after signing Willson Contreras.

Rodón, 30, had to take a minor-league deal just two seasons ago, but he's been one of the best pitchers in baseball since then. In 2021, he was 13-5 with a 2.37 ERA (185 ERA+), 0.96 WHIP and 185 strikeouts in 132 2/3 innings. He was hampered down the stretch with a shoulder injury, so last offseason he settled for a two-year deal with an opt-out after the first year. He went out and made 31 starts for the Giants, going 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA (140 ERA+), 1.03 WHIP and 237 strikeouts in 178 innings.

He looks like a mid-prime ace, but there's baggage with all the shoulder injuries he's had in the past. It'll be interesting to see how things shake out, but the Yankees appear to be firmly in on him.

I assume the Yanx are considering Reynolds or Conforto for the OF...Reynolds will cost a lot from our farm and Conforto didn't play at all this season because of an injury and subsequent surgery to his throwing shoulder so the Yanx may not be willing to risk giving him the contract he and Boras will be seeking...who knows, maybe the Yanx will give Cabrera the spot in LF.
