The legend of The Martian, the Yankees' $5 million, 16-year-old international coup

    "Coup" alright.

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...l-coup?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true

Tomorrow the Yankees are expected to Sign 16 yr old Jasson Dominguez. The Dominican switch hitting CF'r, with a staggering 5 Million $$$ signing bonus.
I did not stutter 5 MILLION dollars bonus, $5,000,000.00

    Trashman and MLB Insanity.

Too reminiscent of signing 16 yr old Venezuelan catcher, Jesus Montero...

We all know what happened to Jesus and where Montero wound up. Odds are "The Martian" will be ruined by more $$$ than the GNP of his home country before he's 21, more than likely winding up another head case like Montero.

I thought MLB had revised is there a international free agent signings, to disallow throwing millions of dollars at kids who are still going through puberty.....

One way to kill and destroy the Yankees Century long Legacy, would be to create mythological stories of Pan American players. Build up the story as if a prospect were Hercules, Sampson and Goliath in the flesh; with a bat glove and ball. Scratch Sampson, a simple haircut destroyed his strength. Scratch Goliath a little boy kicked his ass.

Create plenty of mythological stories about mythological players, then have the Bosox publicly State they have tremendous interest in the mythological players.

Sooner or later Trashman will bite and break the bank pursuing mythological players. Jes sayin'...

13 yrs ago we heard the same BS about a 16 yr old Venezuelan phenom Catcher, who had the defensive skills of Johnny Bench and the Bat of a Piazza, and the arm of a Nolan Ryan...

    Deja Vu...
Trashman is a fool and a sucker too...

From an internet search Montero was plying ball for a Mexican League Team and released in 2018. I remember a lot of flack on the board when the Yankees traded him to Seattle. At least Pineda is still in MLB and is the Twinkies problem. The Orioles signed their 1st Round pick and handed him 8 mil plus.

Montero claimed he could walk on water, turn water into wine, and steroids appear in blood tests as invisible. When it became obvious he wasn't Jesus, but another Roids Fraud; his career went to hell, quit literally.

On a serious note: Montero was traded to Seattle from the Yanx in the 2011/2012 Off Season, after he appeared in 17 games for the Yanx in 2011. He could hit; but throwing runners out was something he never fulfilled his bs billing at.
The M's played Montero behind the plate in 2012 for 56 games. In those 56 games he only threw out 17% of baserunners.
At the start of that season, 2012, Montero was the 6th Top Prospect in all of MLB.

In 2013 Montero Caught only 25 games for the M's, throwing out a stellar amazing 4% of runners.
That same year Jesus failed to make Steroids invisible in his blood; and was suspended for 50 games. He injured his knee the same year.

Returning to the Mariner's in Spring Training, and after his 50 Game suspension. Montero reported to ST camp weighing a lightweight 275 Lbs. The M's were beyond pissed, and only played him at 1st Base but 25 games from 013-015. He was used to DH only 13 times from 013-015, and spent most of his career in the Minors.

So- He was way overweight, didn't have an arm like the press bullshit let on when he was 16, couldn't catch because he was too heavy, and again couldn't throw a Turtle or Elephant out on the basepaths. At the end of the regular season Montero failed PED Testing a 2nd time and was suspended. He was DFA'd in the offseason of 015/2016 and the Blue Jays picked him up. He finally as reported found his Catching abilities again, BUT never played a single game in Toronto; but spent the year in the Minors.
He spent the entire 2016 Season in the Jays Minor League system and somewhat excelled. At the end of the Season 2016 Season, he once again Failed his PED Test and was suspended another 50 games.

In Nov 2016, Montero was granted Free Agency, and the Orioles picked him up. After serving his 50 game suspension, He began to play in the O's Minor League System. But- After battin

In 2017 he played one year with a Mexican Team, and was cut after the year. He began the 018 season with another Mexican League Team, and was cut April 28th.

Now Montero is hiding out in Mexico City, has changed his name and got a facelift, to look as if he's no older than 18, just so he can play Mexican High School Ball at age 30...lol-

More to the Mariners story....on a "rehab" assignment to the Class A team in Everett, he threw an ice cream sandwich (iirc) at a scout who told him he sucked.

I also enjoyed today seeing that Jasson is "being compared with Mickey Mantle" because he's 5'11", 195#....the same as the Mick!! zomG! The more you know, I guess...

    ....^^^^

    Thanks Brian-

I wonder how much of that 5 Mil $$$ Dominguez will eat before he makes it to the Big Lgs??? :devilwink:

I read that (about the Ice Cream fiasco)** just a bit ago, quit a visceral, it must of been sports headline news up there in the greater Seattle area back then, eh???

**In a game against the Boise Hawks, Montero was involved in an altercation with roving instructor Butch Baccala. Baccala, serving as the first base coach for the AquaSox, asked Montero to leave the field in a timely manner at the conclusion of an inning. Baccala then sent an ice cream sandwich to the dugout for Montero.[48] Montero was not happy to be reminded of his earlier weight problem. He grabbed a bat, found Baccala in the stands, and threw the sandwich at Baccala while yelling expletives.[49] The Mariners organization barred Montero from playing the rest of the 2014 season for this incident.
