Whoever is running the youtube channel for the team is dropping the ball. Both Brogdon and Williams did interviews following practice yesterday and they haven't yet been posted. The Scoot and Chauncey interviews drew so many views the day before and the fanbase appears eager for more content and the team isn't striking on the increased interest.
They’ve been really bad so far. Putting out that welcome message where they misspelled Brogdon’s name.
Yeah, that kind of takes Grant out of the equation. If the young player is that good then why swap him for Jerami? It would have to be a contender desperate for a guard at the deadline who lost their guard with an injury and happens to have an abundance of good forwards. Even as I type this it seems like a long shot. Essentially we need to root for the Pelicans to get off to a hot start and then hope CJ gets hurt so they are desperate to trade for Brogdon. I can't imagine there are too many teams that fit that description. Obviously just trading them for an ending contract and picks would be easier, but for me not as attractive. We also have to consider how players like Camara, Murray, and Rupert are developing.
I’m still hoping we could do a three team where Grant goes to Cleveland, Allen goes to another team, and that other team will hopefully have a wing for us.
social team is fine. im guessing they all went out to dinner last night and only got the highlight package up. #itsStilltrainingcampforeveryone
Why doesn't anyone ever ask Billups: "Why haven't you been able to get better defense out of Simons?"
An honest response would have to be something like "Our whole team has sucked on defense, why are you so focused on Ant?"
My answer to Billups would be because he is the worst defender on the team. And you had two years to fix it.
well, off the top of my head, over the last couple of seasons: Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson Lauri Markkanen John Collins Jared Vanderbilt (twice) Josh Hart Jermai Grant Doug McDermott (might not fit the 'young' label) Rui Hachimura Jalen McDaniels now, if you were excluding forwards moved in block-buster trades, that would cut that list down. And if you were talking about all-star level forwards, the list gets even smaller but forwards do get moved, and many of them are starting level of decent quality in my view, Portland hasn't had a quality-level pair of starting forwards since Aldridge/Batum. I'm not talking high-quality; just average quality and I don't think Aminu/Harkless met even that average-quality standard, not if consistency was part of the equation. Considering that the power of the NBA is in those 2-way, 6'6-6'10 wings/forwards, the fact that Portland hasn't had a single one in 8 consecutive seasons is management malpractice
maybe because: defensive rating: Greg Brown III 114 Jusuf Nurkić 114 Drew Eubanks 115 Gary Payton II 116 Matisse Thybulle 116 Justise Winslow 118 Josh Hart 118 John Butler 119 Keon Johnson 119 Cam Reddish 119 Trendon Watford 119 Kevin Knox 120 Jabari Walker 120 Nassir Little 120 Jerami Grant 120 Shaedon Sharpe 121 Damian Lillard 121 Anfernee Simons 123 DBPM: Gary Payton II 1.4 Matisse Thybulle 1.1 Drew Eubanks 0.9 Josh Hart 0.7 Jusuf Nurkić 0.7 Justise Winslow 0.6 Greg Brown III 0.0 Trendon Watford -0.4 John Butler -0.8 Damian Lillard -1.2 Jerami Grant -1.4 Nassir Little -1.4 Cam Reddish -1.4 Keon Johnson -1.6 Shaedon Sharpe -2.0 Jabari Walker -2.1 Anfernee Simons -2.5 Kevin Knox -2.7 it's true, Portland had a bad chain on defense. But Ant was the weakest link on that chain while being 2nd on the team in total minutes. His defensive flaws were noticeable. And all indications are he will be the featured player & #1 option on the Blazers, who would probably like nothing better than for us to watch Ant on offense, and change the channel when he's on defense
I just listened to Billups media day presser. When asked what Simons needs to improve on, he didn't even mention defense. That was a surprise.
I think if the Clippers get off to a fast start and Kawhi and PG can show they can stay relatively healthy, the Clippers will push their chips in and trade for Brogdon.
I hope that Brogdon doesn't get a chance to watch video of Billups' media day presser because he said he was happy for Eubanks that he wasn't going to have to play with all these young guys.
I wonder if Cronin is going to see if this team can win. If they're a surprise team and doing well at the trade deadline, keep them together. If they are a lotto team, I think you have to look to deal guys like Grant, Brogdon, Thybulle and Simons....
Only 4 players from last year, tons of rooks and 1st/2nd yr players, I think we see how things go and evaluate talent/fit etc first several months, perhaps depending on how things go we make a deadline or sooner trade especially if some team thinks Brog or Time is missing link (and they are healthy) and is really willing to pay up. Great thing is there is NO pressure to do anything for a change so we can be very picky.
