At least they’re in the playoffs. Does not look like they can beat the Celtics or the cavs.
 
The Knicks should beat the Pistons in 6 tops, that doesn't mean they will, but I say this series does not go 7. Assuming they beat the Pistons, they will lose in 5 to Boston. I said it last season, and I'll say it again Tibs is not the right coach to get the Knicks to the promise land. It will be the 3rd straight loss in the 2nd round.

As I see it, the Knicks have two issues, Tibs, who coaches every game like it is game 7 of the Finals, and they traded away a star package for a very good player in Bridges. I get why Rose made that trade, the clock was ticking, and you had to deal those picks at some point, but he chose the wrong guy to give up that level of package for. It was too much to give up for a player like Bridges, that package should have been reserved for a stud top dog.

My guess would be if they lose to the Celtics in round 2, and they will, Tibs will get fired and Rose will make another big move this summer, maybe for Durant (or Williamson).
 
He’s a good coach to get then to the playoffs and win a round. With their talent, though, they shouldn’t be consistent losers to the teams ahead of them.
 
I think his philosophy is messed up. Look at his whole coaching career, his teams never get over the ultimate hurdle. Same MO team after team and year after year. I said it during the playoffs last season and was dismissed, I'll say it again now, when they lose to Boston in the 2nd round the Knicks need to move on from Tibs and get a new coach. I truly thank Tibs for helping to get the Knicks get back to respectability, it was not an easy job, but I believe they have reached their peak with him as their coach.

When you play a game in Nov like it's game 7 of the Finals, your philosophy is skewed. And it isn't just injuries to players; it's the physical and mental wear and tear and fatigue they go through even if they play every regular season game/every playoff game. That's the hidden piece of it.

It's time to move on to a new coach after this season, and I would guess Rose will do so, and he'll also try and add another big star to take the next/final step (at the expense of a current very good player like Bridges or OG or Hart).
 
I really cannot wait for Tibs to be out of here after this season. The Knicks have played about 10 good minutes total in two games. They are clearly a much better team than the Pistons, but it doesn't matter when they have zero creativity on O and play with no passion most of the game. You want a great stat, the Knicks got outrebounded 48-34 at home and the Pistons played without their quality backup C (Pistons also had 12 O bounds). If that isn't a hustle and want to stat, I don't know what is.

What a shocker, the Knicks bench sucks, I wonder if it has anything to do with Tibs refusing to let them play and get confidence and experience together in games in Oct, Nov, Dec, etc. Instead, the starters play 38 mpg +, ridiculous.

Two seasons ago they lost to the Heat as the favorite and with home court. Last season they lost to the Pacers as the favorite, and with home court, and with a 2-0 lead, and with a 3-2 lead. This season I still expect them to beat Detroit in 6 games, but when they lose in the 2nd round to Boston, it is finally time to get a coach in here that can take this team all the way, not pound his players into the ground in Nov, win a round and melt.

0-10 this season against Cleveland, Boston, and OKC says it all, Tibs needs to go when they get knocked out in the 2nd round again.

I give the coach credit for leading them to relevance again but they’re going to need a new face in there to get them to the next level. This is a very talented team being held back by an offensive scheme centered around one player. This is why they have been a one and done the last two years. If Brunson is off they’re in trouble.

If you want the 60 win team that hopefully wins a championship it will be under another coach. Tibs has shown how far he can take them which isn’t far enough.
 
Totally agree, that's exactly how I look at Tibs, and his coaching career says the same. He is really a very good coach if your team is spunky, up and coming, trying to get relevant and make a name for themselves, make the playoffs, maybe win a round. If your team has a good deal of talent and is striving to be more than that and get to the next level as a championship team, I just don't think he's the right coach, and again his coaching resume backs that thinking up.

For the Knicks to take the next step and go from simply being relevant again and a nice playoff team, they must get a new coach after this season. And I say that with no malice towards Tibs at all, I thank him for helping to bring the Knicks back to relevance, now a new/better suited coach is needed to take the next championship level step.
 
Knicks won tonight, and I am happy. They will win this series against a clearly inferior and inexperienced team, but you cannot feel good about it. This is a game they should have won easily, continually blew big leads, outscored by 11 points in the 2nd half, outrebounded again, starters all played 39 minutes +.

I truly cannot wait for Tibs to be gone after they lose to Boston in round 2. The Knicks have so much more talent than their play suggests. They are being held back by an archaic coach and system, and lack of utilizing the bench at all really. Only Robinson, who played 16 minutes, played more than 9 minutes off the bench, it's crazy. Tibs has got to go.
 
You want to show something Knicks, come out and win today and essentially put the series away. The Pistons know this is a must win for them, they are at home, and you have to figure they'll come out fired up. If the Knicks can find a way to win today, against a team they are clearly better than mind you, it would be a good to see. My guess is the Pistons will win today, and maybe/most likely pretty easily, but I'd love to see the Knicks get it done and show some poise and maturity.

I strongly believe the Knicks will win this series even if they lose today, but getting the win today would be nice.
 
Could’ve been up by at least twenty something points if they would hit open shots and layups lol Now it’s only a seven point game and all the momentum for Detroit
 
Looked like they got away with the foul at the end there. Basically it’s Brunson or nothing. Good to see Towns hit some big shots. I don’t get why Hart is in the starting lineup.
 
I think that was a good no call, a little bump on a last second heave where Hardaway is clearly trying to draw a foul is a no call to me.

As for the game, again happy they won, and they came out stronger than I expected, but once again this is not a model that will have them beat the best teams.

Outscored again in the 2nd half.
Dominated again on the glass, 54-38 (Pistons had 14 O bounds).
11-18 from the FT line (to be fair, Robinson was 0-4).
Shot 37.4%.
And once again, Tibs refuses to play the bench. One guy with double digit minutes, McBride with 19. Essentially played 5.5 men. You cannot win like that over a long series against the best teams. And Tibs makes it worse as unfortunately he plays that way in Oct/Nov as well.

As I expected, they'll beat an inferior inexperienced Pistons team, and will not take 7 games, but they will get rolled by the Celtics, and then Tibs needs to go, and Rose needs to seriously look at how to improve the team further.

A new coach will make the current talent better, but they need a little more. The Bridges trade is the one that hurt them, traded a star package for a good to very good player in Bridges. We'll see if Rose can overcome that after they lose in the 2nd round again and get a new coach.

As I said, happy they won, and this should in theory be a shorter series, which is good for some rest, but they need to play much better to have any shot against Boston.
 
I think they need another bruising forward who can score. I think Hart is more useful off the bench.
 
With the KAT and Bridges trades, in a lot of ways the Knicks have become the Rangers, softer team without the grit and toughness needed to win against the best. The Knicks need to find a way to add some tough size to balance out their finesse skill.

Same as I said with the Rangers after the Florida loss, I would be okay with trading a little skill for some lunchpail toughness/D/rebounding. I think it would serve the Knicks well to make that a focus this summer, along with a new coach.

So funny, I just typed the same thing. Move some skill for toughness. That's a trade they can make this summer, as most of the league covets skill.

The Bridges trade, and I get why they made it, really was a not a good move for this team. You don't need him, OG, and Hart. Instead of trading a star package for good to very good Bridges, who is not a good fit here style wise, they should have traded a star package for at worst a good to very good tough PF type player, who can do the dirty work, play D, and rebound. Team balance would have been much better served by that.

We'll see if Rose can do anything to fix that misstep this summer.
 
It is, and especially for what the Knicks are looking for. I think they can flip a Bridges for that type of player this summer. The Knicks can afford to lose some skill in the trade, and most of the NBA just focuses on skill, which usually is your best bet in the NBA, but for the Knicks I think the opposite is true when you look at the rest of the team.

I also do truly believe a new/better suited coach will get more out of the current team even if they don't make a trade this summer, which I expect they will. With the Knicks talent, there is no way they should be this tooth and nail with inexperienced Detroit, and no way the Knicks should be 0-10 against Boston, Cleveland, and OKC. The Knicks have too much talent for that. And if they lose in 5 to Boston, Rose needs to be bold to finish it off this summer.
 
The NBA has gone so soft:

“During live play, it was judged that Josh Hart made a legal defensive play,” the statement read. “After postgame review, we observed that Hart makes body contact that is more than marginal to Hardaway Jr. and a foul should have been called.”

To me, that is not a foul. Hardaway is jumping into the player also trying to draw contact, I truly hate when shooters get away with that. And it wasn't some major running into either; there was a body bump. Earlier Towns got a T for a transitional takedown, which is an official thing in the NBA now.

The game is so soft these days. I miss the 90's.
 
Notice how they ignored that Hart was blatantly fouled two seconds before that led to the Pistons getting that shot those fucking New York hating scumbags.
 
The Knicks get a call their way one time in playoff history and ESPN can't emphasize it enough. I think the ridiculous officiating plays a big role in the NBA's dropping ratings.
 
I couldn't agree more. The officiating is terrible, they call so much soft crap, the league as a whole has gotten soft. Combine that with one-on-one dribble, dribble, dribble for 18 seconds, 3-point shot and that's what the league is now. It's kind of sad.
 
Yesterday's game was more like the 90s playoffs plenty of aggressive defense with minimal amount being called on both ends of the floor...reminxed me of the Oakley, Mase, Grant, Rodman, lambeard (spelling) days
 
I was thinking yesterday this knicks team could definitely use someone like Oakley or Anthony Mason type.
