Having text over the render is not a bad thing. You even did it on your Ray Lewis.
Text is hard to read. And yeah the effects are overdone.

You have a lot of potential. It needs a focal point IMO. My eyes are kind of looking everywhere when I look at this sig. Very creative though.
The R in the Reggie text is hard to see. Needs some lighting IMO. Render effects needs improvement also. Other than that it's pretty. I like this one...
I'm gonna be honest here and tell you that you can do a lot better. I like the left side of the sig but the right side needs work.
