Pearl will ethier go to Memphis or sign an extension at Tennessee that would include more money. He wants to get paid over three million a year and he wants to work in better facilities. The Memphis basketball facilities are top of the line. Probably better than UT's.

I saw it coming. Everyone would hate him if he went 400 miles south just for more money.

Now go get Scott Drew and bring in John Wall with him. We are running out of options.

EDIT: Also, I wouldn't mind Reggie Theus.

BOLD = We should still go after them.

Also Scott Drew. Some coaches shouldn't even be up there, though. Andy Kennedy?.

I liked Scott Drew a few days ago, but reading the things the Memphis media has said about him I think it would be a horrible choice. He basically sounds like a poor mans Calipari. A bad bench coach who recruits anyone even if it means recruiting "dirty." I like Reggie Theus a lot more.

The search could now move toward 61-year old Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton. In a 20-year career as a college head coach, including stops at Oklahoma State and Miami, Hamilton’s teams have advanced to the NCAA Tournament just four times. Reggie Theus, the former New Mexico State and Sacramento Kings’ coach, also has been mentioned prominently.

Please make a strong effort for Theus.

Re: Will Tyreke Evans return for another season?

His brother and Evans himself said depending on the coach we hire and if he's a top 10 pick or not he might stay.

Re: Memphis Tigers hire Josh Pastner to replace Calipari

Pastner is a great recruiter and has been an assistant coach for big programs for a while. This hire might convince Tyreke to stay since he is one of the main guys that recruited him. Not a great hire, but a decent one.

Re: Memphis Tigers hire Josh Pastner to replace Calipari

I think this is a good hire for Memphis because Paster has the connections and recruiting ability to keep Memphis landing top flight players. He doesnt have much experience as a head coach but he can recruit with anyone in the country and will build a pipeline to Houston and Texas for Memphis.

I have no doubt in my mind Pastner is going to do a very good job at Memphis.

Also speculation is that Pastner is going to hire Jim Rosborough (Lute Olson's long time head assistant) to be his associate head coach.

Interesting Rumour (Nolan Richardson returns to coaching?)

I saw on a Memphis Tigers message board that Pastner is considering Nolan Richardson for the new Memphis staff. I don't know what to make of it, the guy is almost seventy years old, but he's a proven winner. I don't know what to make of it. I doubt it happens but I thought this rumour was interesting.

Re: Interesting Rumour (Nolan Richardson returns to coaching?)

The man can definably still coach and I think he would do great with Pastner since Pastner is going to continue to use the dribble-drive system. Dribble-drive and "forty minutes of hell" are very similar systems. I don't know about Richardson's ego though, he has always seemed to care a lot about his image and taking an assistant coaching job for a 31 year old doesn't seem right for him

Again, this is only a small rumour. I'm 90% sure it doesn't happen.

    Interesting Resemblance

    [IMG] [IMG]

Interesting resemblance. It was mentioned in an article in the Commercial Appeal saying Memphians are confusing new Tigers' coach Josh Pastner for Peter Brady of The Brady Bunch.

Re: More bad news for the Tigers

Didn’t Calipari say he doesn’t want his recruits to follow him? Roy Williams didn’t let his recruits follow him when he went from Kansas to UNC but what is the difference between Williams and Calipari? Williams has class and he can actually coach, not just recruit like Calipari.

Next season is going to be long and painful.

Telling kids to stay at Kansas is much easier then Telling kids to stay at Memphis. Also, JR Giddens and David Padgett (two Roy recruits that came in after Roy left) left KU after their sophomore and freshmen year.

He didn't tell them to stay at Kansas, he just told them to to follow him to UNC. Ether way this is twice that Calipari has lied to us and he is doing a damn good job screwing us over.

Also look at the class Roy had compared to Calipari, before the recruiting switch (ala Cousins)
