:huh::huh: Just watched the Meyers Leonard exit interview. Guys, trust me, I know when somebody's confidence is shattered and they are totally confused. And that's Meyers right now. I really feel for the guy..... we were too hard on him.

I was with you right up to the bolded bit.

Part of the gig of professional athlete is learning to deal with the criticism that comes with the job. If you wither and fold under pressure that insignificant, what will you do when faced with the insanely high expectations and intense scrutiny that comes with deep playoff runs? Like or not, it's on the athlete to figure some way to either drown out the noise and do their job, or else grow a thick skin and use all of that criticism as fuel. Bottom line: It's a tough job that weeds out people that don't have the grit to hack it.

So is it "mean" that people dog-piled on him for his shitty play? You bet, but that's life. Maybe he should go hire a sports psychologist or a hypnotherapist and do everything he can to get his mind right instead of blaming the team for not supporting him enough. This isn't on the fans, this is on him to stop being a victim, and figure out if he's got any kind of fight in him.

Yeah Nik and usually I'd be with you on this but he just looks shattered. Hard not to feel a little bit of empathy for him even if he does have such a high profile gig.

meyers still seems to take zero responsibility for the shitiness of his play.

exit interview was just full of confusion and not being able to play good when he's not confident.

    well fuck you chump.

he's a lost cause, Neil should be fined for resigning this dickwad.

I'd feel a lot worse for him if he were an amateur athlete or not set for life financially. It sucks to see anybody that down, but he's got about 41 million reasons (courtesy of Neil) to not get too despondent.

I don't hate Meyers and I wish him the best of luck in his next career as a light-bulb changer, but that doesn't mean I think the Blazers should keep him around either. In fact I think it might be imperative to trade him so he can get a change of scenery. I'll tell you one thing though, I hate Olshey for giving him all that stupid money.

Yeah. The money feels like a further investment of foolishness in his belief that Meyers could become a serviceable NBA player.

If Leonard had his confidence shattered in Portland, one shudders to think how he'd have handled being drafted by the Knicks.

He has $40 million to comfort him and spend on man-bun haircuts. At some point, you either do or don't. If fans were reacting to him this way in his rookie year, I'd have more empathy. It's after year 5. You can only coddle for so long.

Here is the key and why he wont become a solid player, sadly.

He speaks of playing optimal while being confident. Well his confidence this offseason is the highest it will ever be. Why? Because it is the only time he will see a team back his confidence up with their own by offering a contract like he got. The contract should have set his confidence issues at ease. The team just said we believe in you. we have confidence in you. We know you came out of last season injured, but we have faith, when healthy, you can be a contributor to our run. The team said this to him by offering him the contract!
Why the hell is his confidence still shakey???????????? Cant succeed at anything if the mindset is this fragile....
