Re: 16 year old stuck after leaving the Blazers Game So you're saying that only the passenger, and not the driver, was A Regular Here?
I'm pretty sure it means that he was one of the stupid kids in school, and this was a way of labeling him to make it seem like it wasn't his fault for being stupid, when it probably was his fault, as he skipped class and didn't do homework, etc. At least that's how it was when I was in school as far as these labels go. And even if the person wasn't just stupid, and was actually mentally retarded, I don't see how it's the Rose Garden's fault that a kid walked off their premises, and got hit by a car, not on their premises. Sounds like the guardians fault.
Someone should have been watching him. Sad event. However, it is survival of the fittest - genes of people who walk into highways are not passed on.
As it turns out, I know the parents of this boy really well. The boy, who is 16, has down syndrome and was at the game with his sister who is in her 20's. They were in a suite with friends and he went to the restroom and "escaped". He is in critical condition at the hospital, and Dr's say it doesn't look real promising right now. His parents are two of the greatest people I know, and are also pastors of a church.
Re: 16 year old stuck after leaving the Blazers Game If he was intoxicated the RG staff wouldn't let him leave on his own. The RG would make sure he would find someone to drive him home, get escorted to a cab, etc. The RG is not liable for someone leaving the facility on their own accord if they aren't under noticeable impairments (dizzy because they are diabetic, drunk, etc).
Update on the kid if anyone cares. The swelling in his brain has subsided, which the dr's said is a total shock. Still in critical condition, but I guess that was a huge and unexpected step.
Re: 16 year old stuck after leaving the Blazers Game Yes I do. With 19,000 people at the Rose Garden the staff isn't reponsible for everyone who walks away during the game.
Re: 16 year old stuck after leaving the Blazers Game It's not all Sergio's fault, he was trying to pass Travis but he wasn't paying attention and turned it over.
You sound like you're speaking from personal experience. Whether you are, or aren't, that post says a whole lot more about you than the poor kid that was struck by a car. BMM
Thanks for the update. As a father of three, I know I'd be absolutely devastated if something like this happened to one of my kids - no mater who was, or wasn't "at fault". I see no humor in this situation and hope the kid makes a full recovery. I'm sure his sister, his parents and the driver of the car are all feeling just awful about what happened. It really is a sad situation, but at least he seems to be showing improvement. Let's hope for the best and save the lame jokes and junior high level commentary for another thread. BNM
That's great. I deeply hope this doesn't result in further long-term damage for the boy. Downs syndrome is already such a terrible disorder.
You're obviously out of touch. I was in high school less than a year ago, in a "ghetto" high school, so I know how it is. Now this kid obviously isn't one of those kids, as it as been revealed he has down syndrome. But if you go in a high school, almost all the people in remedial classes are labeled with this or that disorder or learning disability, when clearly their only learning disability is their effort.
