How many of those five teams had all stars last year that didn't play against us this year? context matters…
Context doesn't matter for achieving something, like winning a title. It's in the books. Context matters if you're trying to figure out how good a team is, to get a sense for how they'll do going forward.
I agree with your sentiment but now that they both have the rings I imagine the context is a lot different for those two teams. Milwaukee won with a team that was built around a superstar they drafted and Milwaukee can look to duplicate what they did to a certain extent. Toronto won with a hired gun that they had for one season and definitely have to find a different way if they want to win another championship. I think you're right that both fan bases and teams are still thrilled that they won but the context right now of how good they are has the Bucks thinking they won one so they can win another, while the Raptors can't have that certainty because they're a totally different team.
You don't need context for that, you can just look at their rosters. If context mattered for titles, then 50 years from now, Milwaukee's title would be viewed differently than Toronto's. And I don't think that will be the case. People care about the narrative around why a title is better or worse right at the time that it happens, but all of that is completely forgotten pretty quickly. That's why I say context doesn't matter once something is in the books.
Feel the same way about wins. When people on here talk about how BAD a loss was or how GOOD a win was. April 15th, they all count the same FAMS.
Yes, at the end of the season, they all count the same. That's "in the book." But if you're trying to figure out how good the team is likely to be for the rest of this season, how you actually played and the level of competition matters. Teams missing stars affects level of competition.
