I never said he was going to get better but he is pretty well priced.

Cheaney does bring NBA experience and personality to the locker-room. It's an underrated quality. I'm sure Cheaney had a lot to do with mentoring Jason Richardson and Troy Murphy last season. DFish is also probably doing wonders with Mickael Pietrus. It's good to have your 12th or 6th guy be a vet that loves playing ball and is very professional, coachable, and can motivate others. You can't say that about vets like Latrell Sprewell and Glenn Robinson. They'll either whine about money or not starting.

Yeah Cheany and Fish are our only 30+ veteran leaders (Adonyl has virtually no leadership but I'm sure he has taught Biedrins to block a shot or two). Cheany is still very servicable as well due to his solid D and nice mid -range shot. If anything we need another classy veteran who can mentor and play some time while younger guys are injured.

I wouldn't say that Adonal has no leadership. Adonal is a fair leader, unfortunately you need to get minutes and relate to your peers to do get respect on the basketball court, and he always hasn't had (or deserved) that unforuntately. Since Adonal is from a slightly different culture (being more educated, having his host family of two college professors, being interested in art & culture, heavily into politics and democracy) than the rest of the Warriors crowd, it's true that he's not the prime example of a leader. But, he taught a lot to Biedrins about adapting from a foreign culture and provides a great example of being a community leader. So, he's not a "leader" of the Warriors vocally, but he serves by example and is a very helpful, honest person, who's professional, and he definitely has helped Biedrins adapt early on before he had the Euro-club come over through all of those mid-season trades.

I agree that he is a good person and that he may not be a leader due to his different interests than the younger guys but it still stands that he is not too great of a leader/mentor (except probably teaching some D).

Adonal is a guy who hustles, has charachter. I think he is someone very able to give wise advice to young players. Baron brings the more vocal sort of leadership,Fish brings the experiance of winning a championship. Those 3,togather,give a nice spectrum of positive influences. While Calbert,as a guy who's been around the league may be a plus,he isn't a star, nor an extrovert,so his leadership role is apt to be minor. A team building something wants a roster spot or two to try to find some sleepers, guys who, once given a shot can grow into a role while having little impact on the budget.

The problem with the up and comers out of the draft is they're still getting a feel for the NBA and so is the coach trying to get a feel for the rookie. I hope we find the training camp invitees that have at least played in the league, but have been victims of position log jams. Kind of like how we wound up with Brian Cardinal or Ansu Sesay (The NBDL MVP). Those two looked good in limited minutes.

For big men, I'm thinking the Warriors should try to track down these guys:

    Big men

You already mentioned one, Francisco Elson. He would be a good backup/3rd string if we don't get a good big man in the draft. I talked about Mikki Moore last offseason, and he would be good insurance as well. Bo Outlaw would be a good pick up, in my opinion. He's another example of a successful undersized forward that we've all been talking about is in this draft.

    Shooters

Not too many sleepers here. Anthony Roberson is a good shooter out of college, though not as solid as Salim, who's the same height. Matt Carroll, who we tried out but cut, or his brother coming out of college, Pat Carroll, who's very much of the same mold, are both probably available. Sarunas Jasikevicius, the 6'4" guard from Lithuania, might be worth an audition, but I'm afraid that we don't have room on the Warriors for the minutes he wants. There are a few other veteran choices, but they're the usual suspects.

    Point guards

Smush Parker might deserve another shot. Maybe Troy Bell, too. Anthony Parker has been ripping up the Euroleague, but might be expensive. Luis Flores might be available again if Mullin wants to take another shot at him. Andre Barrett is a solid 3rd string PG who's been looking for a permanent place to call home. Jannero Pargo impressed in 2003 with the Bulls although he's more of a combo guard.

I don't know his current whereabouts but a guy,Marlon Parmer was blazing in the CBA a while back, around the lead in assists, scoring and steals. He was point for Kentucky Weslyan who as I recall I saw in the div2 finals game, with him their key guy.

I think with Marlon Parmer we tried him out in training camp, but he couldn't beat the rotation of Derek Fisher, Speedy Claxton, Luis Flores. But he would be worth inviting again, because of his performance. I think Luis Flores, like Zhone pointed out, is a FA this season.

Matt Caroll was also in our summer league.

I wouldn't mind Francisco Elson, but is there room for him? He's a Cal guy I think. We need some kind of defensive presence if Foyle goes down because I don't think Biedrins can last 20 minutes with the foul trouble he picks up and Troy Murphy/Zarko Cabarkapa are not centers although they can try.
