On another note, didn't know that Minnesota changed their logo. haha

I will only predict the top 3, Chicago takes Rose, Miami take Beasley, and Minnesota end up with Lopez.</div>

Actually that "TW" logo was their old secondary logo....now they have that one with the howling Wolf.

And if Minnesota gets Brook at #3...the Minnesoat fans just might burn down the front office. No one want's our team to pull the Bowie (need) over Jordan (talent) sh*t!!!

I'm not sure about him either, which I think you personally may find odd considering how much I follow foreign leagues. [IMG]

I suppose because I haven't really been able to watch the French league at all this season being in the US all year. I've only been able to concentrate on big Euroleague matches for the most part.
    </div>

He played in both the 2007 and 2008 Hoops Summits. I wasn't impressed in 2007, but this year, he was the best international player on the floor.

Cloud of uncertainty hangs over NBA draft
    Wednesday, June 25, 2008 10:40 AM

    By Anthony Olivieri
    PA SportsTicker Pro Basketball Editor

Even the one sure thing in the 2008 NBA draft is still up in the air.

If that sounds confusing, welcome to one of the most unpredictable drafts in recent memory, which will take place Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

The Chicago Bulls are on the clock for the No. 1 pick and most think they will take athletic point guard Derrick Rose, who grew up in the Windy City before leading the Memphis Tigers to a runner-up finish in his lone collegiate season.

Rose's worth to the Bulls is obvious. He's a hometown kid with uncanny athletic skill in the open court and a knack for leading a team.

With power in the NBA shifting by the play of its point guards, Chicago would seem to have an obvious choice - but it has refused to tip its hand.

The Bulls, who had 1.7 percent odds to win last month's lottery, also are considering high-scoring forward Michael Beasley, who averaged 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds as a freshman at Kansas State.

But if Beasley were to drop to the Miami Heat, who own the draft's second selection, it would raise questions about his ability to co-exist with the omnipresent nightlife in South Beach.

In response, Miami has expressed interest in Southern California guard O.J. Mayo, who was billed as the No. 1 pick in the draft since he was in middle school.

Mayo most certainly will not be the first player taken, but the Heat have worked him out vigorously during the pre-draft season, prompting Miami superstar Dwyane Wade to sing his praises.

A former NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, Wade knows what he's talking about when it comes to prime-time talent - even going out of his way to compliment the much-maligned Mayo, whose talent has been clouded by allegations he received improper benefits at USC.

So there you have it, three players who most are certain will have an impact on the league - beyond that, it's anyone's guess. As a result, the early portion of the lottery could be littered with trades.

The Heat have been rumored to be shopping their pick and Minnesota Timberwolves (No. 3), Memphis Grizzlies (No. 5), New York Knicks (No. 6) and Los Angles Clippers (No. 7) all may try to swing something.

The Knicks' selection will usher in a new era in New York, which is led by new team president Donnie Walsh and coach Mike D'Antoni.

The former coach of the Phoenix Suns, D'Antoni played in Italy with the father of projected lottery pick Danilo Gallinari. But a champion of fast-break play, D'Antoni most likely will be looking for a floor general.

The Seattle SuperSonics, who own the fourth pick, are in the same boat. They need a floor general to pair with reigning Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant.

But it may be the last pick in the Pacific Northwest for the Sonics, who are in the midst of an ugly court case over their lease at KeyArena and may be on the move to Oklahoma City in the near future.

Both teams will have their choice of point guards.

UCLA's Russell Westbrook, D.J. Augustin of Texas, Arizona's Jerryd Bayless and Eric Gordon of Indiana all could selected in the lottery and asked to run a team.

But each has questions marks - including Westbrook's lack of scoring ability, Augustin's size, Bayless' shaky playmaking prowess and Gordon's overreliance on his jumpshot.

The Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Bobcats, New Jersey Nets, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors round out the lottery.

Each will have a chance to turn their fortunes around in a draft which also features UCLA forward Kevin Love, Stanford center Brook Lopez and West Virginia swingman Joe Alexander.

NBA Draft Thumbnail Sketches - Point Guards

    By PA SportsTicker

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Derrick Rose Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-3, 196

OVERVIEW: A pure point guard in the truest sense of the word. With the rules changes in the NBA, point guards have become a hot commodity - and superstar point guards can be the key cog to a championship. Is one of the most athletic floor generals to come along in awhile, and that's saying a lot with Chris Paul and Deron Williams running around. Ironically, when all is said and done, Rose may be a combination of the two. He has great size and deceptive strength like Williams and speed and athleticism similar to Paul. Tremendous floor leader excels in the open court and can take any defender to the rim. At 6-3, shows an incredible ability to finish with a strong dunk - an unusual quality at the point. Led Memphis to the national championship game in his lone season in college, showing leadership and the ability to perform under pressure. May need to be placed in the right system because his inconsistent jumper can be exposed in a half-court game. Needs to polish post game, which wasn't asked of him in college.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: top two - first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Chris Paul

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: William Avery

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Jerryd Bayless Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-3, 204

OVERVIEW: Bayless has all the tools. He is a great athlete and a blur in the open floor. Attacks the basket well but also has the ability to shoot it wherever and whenever he wants. But his skill set is something that can hinder him as well. Sometimes settles for the contested jumper too much because, well, he can make it. Possesses three things that make him good for the transition offense - an excellent pull-up jumper, a great hesitation move and uncanny body control on the move. Wasn't asked to commit to defense at Arizona, where he scored 19.7 points per game in his lone college season. But other defensive-oriented programs would have pushed his ability as a ball-hawk. Certainly has the quickness to bug other ball-handlers but his length could be a problem against swooping NBA guards. In short, Bayless is an explosive player with a great future ahead of him as a go-to scorer, but he must polish his playmaking skills if he's going to play point guard.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    lottery

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
    Gilbert Arenas

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jamal Crawford

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Russell Westbrook Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-3, 192

    OVERVIEW:
Took a lot from his experience at UCLA. Was not highly recruited coming out of high school and was not offered a scholarship with the Bruins until Jordan Farmar left for the NBA. But UCLA's run to three Final Fours - Westbrook was a part of two of them - was fueled by defense, and that's exactly what he does best. Great athlete who pressures the ball well and causes havoc for other ball-handlers. Can finish strong around the basket in transition and can always be trusted to value the ball on each possession. Can make the open jumper but is not classified as a volume scorer or pure shooter. Needs to improve in that area or it will be harder for him to be effective going to the rim, neutralizing his offense and making him a defensive substitute off the bench. Luckily, he is extremely coachable and great teammate. Is willing to mold his game to the NBA's style and most likely will excel at doing so. Solid decision-maker at the point but can play either guard position. Does not have the offensive ceiling of Rose or Bayless but will be a solid NBA player.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    lottery

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
    Kevin Johnson

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Fred Jones

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">D.J. Augustin Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS:
    5-11, 180

OVERVIEW: A genuine point guard who looks to make his teammates better. He showed as much as a freshman at Texas, which boasted phenom Kevin Durant two seasons ago. Augustin deferred to Durant and showed an ability to get his superstar teammate shots. That's his greatest strength - he puts team in front of self. However, his 5-11 stature makes him a long shot to succeed as a starter in the NBA. Most point guards under six feet have above-average athletic ability, something Augustin sorely lacks. On the plus side, he had a 2.09 assist-to-turnover ratio with the Longhorns last season - an improvement on his already stellar 2.03 mark in 2006-07. Compared to Steve Nash for his ability to keep his dribble and find teammates amidst taller players in the lane.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    possibly late-lottery; definitely first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
    Jameer Nelson

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Luke Ridnour

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Mario Chalmers Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-1, 190, Kansas

OVERVIEW: Famous for making the game-tying 3-pointer in the waning seconds of this past season's national championship game, which the Jayhawks won in overtime. Is a solid outside shooter, making 47 percent of his 3-pointers last season. Scored a career-high 30 points in Kansas' Big 12 Conference Championship win over Texas on March 16. Very good defender, ranking second on Kansas' all-time list in steals with 283. Set the single-season record for steals with 97 during the 2006-07 season and tied that mark in 2007-08, being named to the Big 12 All-Defense team for both campaigns. Not extremely quick but is a very reliable ball-handler.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    Late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Jamaal Tinsley

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Charlie Ward

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Jamont Gordon Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-4, 225, Mississippi State

OVERVIEW: Versatile, physical guard that is good at getting shots for himself and for his teammates. Recorded the second triple-double in school history during his sophomore season with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists against Vanderbilt on February 21, 2007. Averaged 17.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists last season and was named to the First Team All-SEC. Out of control at times and had over 4.0 turnovers per game during his career with the Bulldogs. Not a great shooter but uses his size and quickness to get to the basket. Needs to improve on his defense.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    Mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
    Delonte West

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Reece Gaines

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">OJ Mayo Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-4, 200, USC

    OVERVIEW:
Led the Trojans in points, assists and steals, averaging 20.7, 4.5, 3.3 and 1.5, respectively, while logging nearly 37 minutes per game in his only collegiate season. Very explosive scorer with the confidence in himself to match. Able to fill it up in a hurry and in a variety of ways. Possesses nearly unlimited range with his jump shot. Proved to be a better defender than many expected, in large part due to his build (78-inch wingspan) and incredible athletic ability (41-inch vertical jump). Able to get his shot off against anybody and also in traffic, but will need to improve his quickness and upper-body strength - which will help beat his opponent and lead to more scoring opportunities in the lane - as well as his decision-making (3.5 turnovers/game) to become a complete player.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: High lottery pick

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Brandon Roy

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Kirk Snyder

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Eric Gordon Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-3, 222, Indiana

OVERVIEW: Is a complete offensive player that has the ability, build and willingness to take the hit and finish inside as well as the range and stroke to make teams pay from the outside. Shot 83 percent (231-of-277) from the foul line in his lone collegiate season. Shows no fear inside the lane and easily outmuscles smaller defenders. His physical tools should lead to an easier-than-usual transition to the pro game. As impressive as he was during the first part of the college season, his most distinguishing trait in 2007-08 may have been how well he handled himself on two trying occasions: the first coming because of the hassle he received for backing out of his commitment to his hometown team (Illinois) and the second being the recruiting turmoil that surrounded the Indiana basketball program this season off the court; the latter of which likely explains his statistical decline across the board during the second half of the season. His lack of ideal height likely leaves him without a definite position at the next level, but his offensive game should allow him to play right away in the NBA.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    Lottery pick

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Mitch Richmond

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Dion Glover

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Brandon Rush Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS:
    6-6, 210, Kansas

OVERVIEW: Averaged at least 13.3 points during each of his three seasons at Kansas. Scored 25 points in Kansas' national semifinal win over North Carolina and averaged 15.8 points during the Jayhawks' national title run. Suffered a torn ACL after his sophomore season, which prevented him from entering the NBA draft last year. Always under control with the ball, has solid athleticism and is a decent shooter. Made 44 percent of his 3-pointers during his three-year career at Kansas. Good defender but disappeared at times in the Jayhawks' balanced offensive attack. Can play shooting guard or small forward.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid to late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Eddie Jones

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: John Salmons

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Courtney Lee Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-5, 200, Western Kentucky

OVERVIEW: Scored 2,238 points during his four-year career with the Hilltoppers, averaging 20.4 last season to earn the Sun Belt Player of the Year Award. Scored 20.6 per contest, including a 29-point effort against San Diego as WKU made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAAs last season. Pure scorer and has good range, but shot selection was not always the best (7-of-29 against UCLA in his last game). Had 242 steals over his career and made 40 percent of his 3-pointers. Great athleticism but does not have ideal size to play shooting guard.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early or mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Kevin Martin

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Courtney Alexander

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Kyle Weaver Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-6, 205, Washington State

OVERVIEW: The top perimeter defender on what was one of the best defensive teams in the nation at Washington State. High basketball IQ, but has average skills offensively. His range has improved during his four years, but still must get better to become a more consistent 3-point shooter. Averaged 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists last season as the Cougars reached the regional semifinals for the first time since 1941. Became the first player in Pac-10 Conference history to have at least 300 points, 125 rebounds, 125 assists, 50 steals and 35 blocks in the same season, which happened during his junior year in the 2006-07 campaign.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Bruce Bowen

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Dion Glover

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Shan Foster Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-6, 205, Vanderbilt

OVERVIEW: Finished as the Commodores' all-time leading scorer with 2,011 points and is second in Southeastern Conference history with 367 made 3-pointers. Scored 20.3 points during his senior season and was the consensus SEC Player of the Year. Made nine 3-pointers, while scoring a career-high 42 points in an overtime win over Mississippi State on March 5. Has ideal size to play the shooting guard position but is strictly a spot-up shooter. Lacks the ball handling to drive to the basket and is a liability on defense. Runs off screens well and has a very quick release but doesn't always demand the ball and can disappear during games.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid to late second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Voshon Lenard

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Trajan Langdon

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Nicolas Batum Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-8, 210, France

OVERVIEW: Averaged 19.0 points and 5.7 rebounds, earning Most Valuable Player honors as he led France to the Under-18 championship in 2006. Can run the floor and will finish around the rim, although he generally stays on the perimeter. Very athletic and has good range, shooting over 50 percent from the field for his European club team last season. Is still young (19) and will need to add weight to his thin frame. Has the height and length to play small forward but is athletic enough to play the shooting guard.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid to late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
    Rudy Gay

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Mickael Pietrus

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Bill Walker Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-6, 235, Kansas State

OVERVIEW: Walker had played in six games during his freshman year before suffering a torn ACL but rebounded well from the injury last season. Was second on the team - behind Michael Beasley - in scoring at 16.1 per game. Scored 30 points or more three times and had four double-doubles last season. Good rebounder for his size - had 6.3 per game last season and is extremely athletic. Likes to take advantage of his jumping ability on the offensive end but must improve his overall skill set. Not a great shooter and prefers to drive to the basket. Very intense and competitive on the court.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Desmond Mason

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Vincent Yarbrough

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Chris Douglas-Roberts Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-7, 200, Memphis

OVERVIEW: Named the Conference USA Player of the Year after averaging 18.1 points and 4.1 rebounds during his junior year for the national runner-up Memphis Tigers. Shot 54 percent from the field and improved his 3-point shooting to 41 percent, which led the team. Can score in a variety of ways and has a good mid-range game. Averaged 23.3 points during this past NCAA Tournament, including a 28-point performance against UCLA in the national semifinals. Named to the NCAA All-Tournament first team. Scored 32 points against UAB on February 16, converting the game-winning three-point play with seven seconds remaining to lift the Tigers to a 79-78 victory. Averaged 15.4 points during his sophomore season and finished his career ninth all-time in school history with 1,545 points.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Middle or late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Ron Mercer

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Ed O'Bannon

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Danilo Gallinari Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-9, 220

OVERVIEW: A tall European who has all the offensive skills on the perimeter but still needs to bulk up before he can score inside in the NBA. Shoots the ball with touch from anywhere on the court and has developed a nice hesitation move to the basket. At 6-9, can hit his jumper over the top of defenders but has yet to develop a polished post game. However, he is not a stereotypical European performer. Plays with some fire and attitude and is a gutsy competitor. He also has some valuable experience in one of Europe's top leagues, where he put up big numbers. However, it's uncertain if that will translate to the NBA. Despite those concerns, he has a knack for scoring any way possible - similar to a smaller Dirk Nowitzki, who seems to will his jumper in the basket from all different angles. But if he is to get to Nowitzki's level, he must improve his ball-handling skills because his athleticism is nothing to write home about. His father was a former player and teammate of New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: lottery

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Detlef Schrempf

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Keith Van Horn

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Joe Alexander Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-8, 220

OVERVIEW: Combines breathtaking leaping ability with top-notch mid-range game - a rare pair of dominant traits. Can score on the wing coming off screens or pulling up off the dribble, but he also excels on the glass where he can outleap his opponents. Likes contact and is willing to mix it up with bigger players. That being said, can stand to add a little bulk so he can deal with the punishment easier. Has not realized all his potential but does seem to have a knack for playing the game. Is not an exceptional passer but has shown the ability to make a play when it's available. His next order of business will be to figure out how to maximize his gifts. While he has a stellar mid-range game, he does not have consistent 3-point range. Can jump but isn't all that quick laterally, making him only an average defender. Came on for West Virginia in the Big East and NCAA tournaments, meaning his best days are most likely ahead of him.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: possible lottery; mid-first round at the latest

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Shawn Marion

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Tyrus Thomas

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Michael Beasley Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-8, 239

OVERVIEW: Posted a dominant season in his lone college campaign. Possesses a natural scoring ability, which is his most impressive attribute. When discussing his skills, the conversation revolves around offense. Has a great touch around the basket, allowing him to finish in other ways besides a dunk. Can take his range out to the arc or face up a defender in the post and shoot it in his face. That being said, there is a question regarding his position at the next level. While he was billed as 6-10 in college, pre-draft measurements found him to be closer to 6-8. May have a problem getting the same looks against bigger defenders at power forward in the NBA. A move to small forward also isn't a sure thing. His perimeter skills are more suited to the four-spot than the wing. However, despite the questions, Beasley will be a huge addition to any club because he will score - how much so is up for debate - and that's always been the name of the game.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: top two - first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Carmelo Anthony

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Glen Robinson

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Marreese Speights Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-10, 250, Florida

OVERVIEW: Ranked third in the Southeastern Conference in shooting percentage at 63 percent and was fourth in the conference in rebounding at 8.1 per game. Had 10 double-doubles, which included a 16-point, career-high 18-rebound performance in the Gators' National Invitation Tournament semifinal loss to Massachusetts on April 1. Scored double figures in 31 of 36 games, including his final 11 contests. Only played 5.7 minutes per game coming off the bench for Florida's second National Championship at the end of the 2006 season, but finished his sophomore campaign as one of the better big men in the SEC. Averaged 14.5 points and 1.4 blocks last season.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Middle or late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Al Jefferson

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Michael Sweetney

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">J.J. Hickson Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

VITALS: 6-9, 242, North Carolina State

OVERVIEW: Burst onto the scene in his first collegiate game, making all 12 of his shots en route to 31 points against William & Mary on November 15. Averaged 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds, posting 10 double-doubles last season. Started the campaign strong but trailed off during the latter part of the season before collecting 27 points and 14 rebounds in a loss at Miami on March 13. Great finisher around the rim and is usually active in the paint. Is still young (19) and needs to develop more range, which another year in school may have helped. Physical and athletic, has good size to play power forward.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Chris Wilcox

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Gary Trent

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Jason Thompson Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-10, 245, Rider

OVERVIEW: Thompson averaged at least 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in his last two seasons at Rider, finishing second in the nation with 12.1 rebounds per game last campaign. Scored in double figures in every game and had a double-double in 24 of 34 contests last season. Had 32 points and 18 rebounds in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament win over Marist on March 9, which helped him top 2,000 points for his career. Has a good post presence and can hit an open mid-range jumper but played the majority of his career against "mid-major" competition. Good size and length and can finish above the rim.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Late first round or early second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Joe Smith

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Alan Henderson

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">D.J. White Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-8, 240, Indiana

OVERVIEW: Led the Big Ten Conference in rebounding at 10.3 per game and was second on the Hoosiers with 17.3 points per contest. White had 20 double-doubles during the season, including a string of 11 out of 12 games during the early stages of the campaign. Had 21 points and a career-high 22 rebounds in a win at Michigan on January 8. Shot 61 percent from the field during his senior year. Has good foot work and can hit open mid-range shots, but will need to expand his range a little further. Solid athleticism and has long arms, which helps make up for his lack of size at power forward.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early or mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Malik Rose

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Kenny Thomas

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Serge Ibaka Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-10, 220, Congo

OVERVIEW: Long and athletic, Ibaka can run the floor well and is a good finisher in transition. The 18-year-old is still a couple years away from reaching his full potential and must improve on his low-post game. Has good range, especially for his size, and can knock down 15- to 20-foot jumpers. Must get stronger and has also not played against top competition for most of his career, but plays with good intensity and goes after rebounds well.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early second round, could sneak into the first round.

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Hakim Warrick

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jerome Moiso

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Ryan Anderson Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-10, 235, California

OVERVIEW: Led the Pac-10 Conference in scoring last season at 21.1 points per game and also averaged 9.9 rebounds. He set a school record for points by a sophomore with 697. Had 16 double-doubles last season, which featured a career-best 36 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Nevada on November 28. Is an excellent outside shooter, making 41 percent of his 3-pointers and 87 percent of his free throws. Loves to spot up from the outside but can face up out of the post and score from there as well. Needs to improve his strength and is not very quick. Not a shot-blocking threat.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION:
    Early second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Keith Van Horn

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Pat Garrity

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Richard Hendrix Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-8, 250, Alabama

OVERVIEW: Averaged 17.8 points and 10.1 rebounds for the Crimson Tide last season, totaling 17 double-doubles. Had 22 points and 23 rebounds in the season opener against Troy. Lost weight between his sophomore and junior seasons and had more quickness during his last campaign at Alabama. Shot 60 percent from the floor but just 54 percent from the free-throw line. Is active on the boards and was a very reliable scorer in college. Does have trouble against bigger, more athletic forwards and is a little undersized at power forward. Can score either in the post or with a mid-range jumper.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early to mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Corliss Williamson

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Marcus Fizer

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Kevin Love Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-9, 255, UCLA

OVERVIEW: Led Bruins in points (17.7), rebounds (10.6) and blocks (1.4) in his only season in Westwood. Posted 23 double-doubles in 39 games while shooting 56 percent from the field, 77 percent from the foul line and 35 percent from the arc. What he lacks is ideal power-forward height and athleticism, he makes up for in fundamentals and intelligence, showing an understanding of the game well beyond his years. Is nearly impossible to move off the block but is a bit predictable with his moves at this point. Is one of the best post passers at any level and will thrive in a role where he can play off a teammate who is a dominating post presence. Possesses big, strong hands that allow him to catch almost any pass and make it nearly impossible to strip him of a rebound. Is a tenacious presence on the glass but will likely only be a complementary player in the NBA until he learns how to get his shot off against bigger players and/or gains more quickness.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Lottery pick

COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: A poor man's Wes Unseld

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Nick Collison

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Joey Dorsey Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-9, 260, Memphis

OVERVIEW: The top rebounder for the the Tigers in each of his last two seasons, pulling down 9.5 per game last campaign. Dorsey is a bruiser down low but is not an offensive option. Woeful from the free-throw line, making just 38 percent (45-of-119) last season and the senior was under 50 percent in each of his four seasons with Memphis. Blocked 264 shots over his career but seems to lack motivation or intelligence at times, averaging more than 3.0 fouls during his collegiate career. Had two double-doubles during the Tigers' tournament run to the national championship game, including a 13-point, 12-rebound performance against Mississippi State in the second round. Grabbed 22 rebounds in a win over Houston on January 30, matching a career high.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early or mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Ben Wallace

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jerome James

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Donte Greene Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-9, 221, Syracuse

OVERVIEW: Led the Orange in scoring during his freshman season, posting 17.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in nearly 36.0 minutes per contest. Long and athletic, loves shooting from the outside and made 35 percent of his 3-pointers while attempting 7.5 per game. Scored at least 20 points 14 times, including a career-high 27 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament against Robert Morris on March 18. Had six double-doubles during his only season at Syracuse. Shot 42 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free-throw line.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid-first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Danny Granger

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jonathan Bender

    By PA SportsTicker

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">JaVale McGee Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 7-0, 237, Nevada

OVERVIEW: Became a full-time starter during his sophomore season and was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Defense team after recording 92 blocks in 33 games. Ranked fourth all-time in Wolfpack history with 122 blocks despite playing just two seasons. Blocked at least four shots in 13 games last season. Averaged 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds last season after averaging just 3.3 and 2.2 in 10.0 minutes during his freshman season. Had eight double-doubles during his sophomore campaign, including a 23-point, 14-rebound performance on March 8 against Fresno State. Pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds in a win against Central Florida on December 16. Shot 53 percent from the field but just 53 percent from the free-throw line. Long and athletic but will need to add a little weight to be a solid center.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid or late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Andrew Bynum

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Hilton Armstrong

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Roy Hibbert Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 7-2, 275, Georgetown

OVERVIEW: Averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks last season but failed to live up to expectations. Posted five double-doubles, including an impressive 25-point, 13-rebound game against West Virginia in the Big East tournament. Hibbert also disappeared in games, failing to score a point against Villanova in the Big East quarterfinals and posting six points and one rebound before fouling out against Davidson in the NCAA Tournament. Has good shooting touch for his size and even made all three of his 3-point attempts last season. Is not very athletic but usually makes good decisions when facing double teams and seemed to understand his role in the "Princeton" offense. His point production increased during all four seasons and was named to the All-Big East first team last season.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Joel Przybilla

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Yinka Dare

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Robin Lopez Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 7-0, 255, Stanford

OVERVIEW: The less-coveted of the Lopez twins, Robin made his living with hustle and defense, leading the team with 2.3 blocks per game last season. Robin also led the Pac-10 Conference with 2.4 blocks during his freshman season. Had a combined 156 blocks during his two seasons with the Cardinal and had nearly as many offensive rebounds (171) as defensive rebounds (205) during his collegiate career. Has the ability to score at times, averaging 10.7 points last season, including 18 in Stanford's second-round overtime victory over Marquette in last season's NCAA Tournament. But while his scoring improved, Robin is more of a rugged, role player that is willing to do the dirty work for his team.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Middle to late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Anderson Varejao

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Jake Voskuhl

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">DeVon Hardin Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-11, 250, California

OVERVIEW: Suffered a broken foot 12 games into his junior season and had a fast start to his senior year before trailing off late. Averaged 9.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last season. Rugged rebounder and has the size and strength to contribute in the NBA right away. Shot 55 percent from the field last season but was not the focal point of the offense and only attempted 10 or more shots in five of his 30 games. Has the ability to score in the post but not consistent enough. His shooting range is limited. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Brian Grant

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Samaki Walker

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Nikola Pekovic Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-11, 240, Serbia

OVERVIEW: Has helped his team win three Serbian league championships with KK Partizan and was the Adriatic League Final Four Most Valuable Player last season. Averaged 16.4 points and 6.9 rebounds this past season, shooting 58 percent from the field. Is a physical player and is a good scorer in the post. Has good strength but may not be big enough to play center at the NBA level. Has good hands and is consistent enough at the offensive end but is not very athletic.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Rasho Nesterovic

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Cherokee Parks

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Nathan Jawai Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-10, 280, Australia

OVERVIEW: Averaged 17.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in the Australian league last season. Is a big, physical presence in the post, but does not have ideal height to be a true center. Quick for his size and has good finishing ability around the rim. Conditioning has been an issue at times but he seems to have a good feel for the game and plays with a good motor on the interior.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early or middle second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
    Erick Dampier

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Oliver Miller

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Brook Lopez Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 7-0, 258, Stanford

OVERVIEW: Should arrive and be a solid complementary player right away with the ability to pitch in on the offensive end. Led the defensive-minded Cardinal in scoring (19.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.2) while finishing just behind his twin brother Robin in blocks (2.1). As with most players that come out of Stanford, he is fundamentally sound. Already possesses a decent assortment of inside moves but can keep a defender honest with his ability to hit a jumper from 15 feet. Unlikely to ever be a great defender, but his length will help him in that regard. Has a strong base and, with additional upper-body strength, will be almost impossible to move off the block. Shot 69 percent from the foul line in 2007, a number that should only increase with his touch. Lacks ideal athleticism and is far from explosive, but should round into a more-than-serviceable NBA big man, primarily because of sharp mind, size and position. His biggest drawbacks at this point are that he is a bit mechanical and stiff in his movements, and that he doesn't always use the best judgement in the shot selection department - somewhat expected from a college player after just two seasons.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Lottery pick

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Brad Daugherty

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
    Michael Doleac

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">DeAndre Jordan Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-11, 250, Texas A&M

OVERVIEW: A very raw prospect with an incredibly high ceiling. While his potential is just that at this point, he possesses the combination of size, length, and explosiveness that pro teams absolutely salivate over. The team that selects him should count on him to be a defensive presence only at first while developing his vast offensive potential. Already runs the floor well and would be best served - at least initially - in an up-tempo system that allows him to be a defensive stopper that beats his defender down the court on the offensive end. Will require a lot of patience from his future employer because although his one season as an Aggie helped him, he offers little in regards to offensive moves or the ability to create his own shot. Just like his offensive game, his shooting stroke will need a lot of work. As much of a risk-reward player as this draft has to offer and someone who, if he goes to the right team, will look like a completely different player in about three years.

    LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid-first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Dwight Howard

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Brian Skinner

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Trent Plaisted Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 6-11, 245, BYU

    OVERVIEW:
Named to the first team All-Mountain West Conference after his junior season, which he averaged 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Cougars. Had eight double-doubles last season, including a 24-point, 17-rebound performance against North Carolina on November 24. Was a very good scorer in the post and can make mid-range jumpers. Is lefthanded and uses that hand effectively on the offensive end. Can run the floor but is not always active and must prove he's tough enough to play down low at the next level.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Early to mid-second round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Othella Harrington

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Bill Curley

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Alexis Ajinca Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 7-0, 230, France

OVERVIEW: Has a wing span of over 7 1/2 feet and is very athletic for a big man. Still needs to get stronger and add some weight to help out his rebounding ability, especially in the NBA. Not a go-to scorer but can make mid-range jumpers, although he needs to develop more post moves. Only played 10.8 minutes per game in the French ProA league last season, averaging 5.0 points and 3.1 rebounds. At age 20, Ajinca is still young and has tremendous upside to be a consistent contributor in a year or two.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Theo Ratliff

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Francisco Elson

    <u>+<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Kosta Koufos Draft Capsule</span>+</u>

    VITALS: 7-0, 250, Ohio State

OVERVIEW: Averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds in his first season with Ohio State, helping the Buckeyes win the National Invitation Tournament. Scored 18.2 points during the NIT and had 22 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in the championship win over Massachusetts. Had seven double-doubles during the season, which included 22 points and a career-high 14 rebounds against VMI on November 25. Shot 51 percent from the field and 35 percent from the arc but is more of a post-up player. Has the ability to shoot from the outside and can put the ball on the floor but, like most foreign-born players, does not like to bang with stronger players down low.

LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: Mid to late first round

    COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Pau Gasol

    COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Darko Milicic

    Report: Blazers acquire Hornets' pick
    Wednesday, June 25, 2008 07:21 AM

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired the 27th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft from the New Orleans Hornets in return for cash considerations, according to an article posted Wednesday on ESPN.com.

The report states that the the deal was agreed to verbally between the teams on Tuesday night and that they have scheduled a trade call with the league Wednesday morning to make the deal official.

The Blazers, who missed the playoffs after finishing 10th in the Western Conference with a 41-41 record last season, also have the 13th overall selection in addition to a trio of picks in the second round.

Portland selected center Greg Oden from Ohio State University with the No. 1 pick in last season's draft. Oden missed the entire 2008 campaign after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee in the preseason.

The Blazers also acquired the 23rd pick in last season's draft, selecting Rudy Fernandez, who is currently playing in his native Spain.

The Bobcats now own the ninth and 20th picks in the first round, along with the 38th selection in Thursday's draft.

According to various reports, the Bobcats could be targeting Georgetown center Roy Hibbert with the pick acquired from the Nuggets.

I always find it interesting to see which teams are willing to go with foreign talent. It seems as though sometimes the teams that select a few of them don't even look at their player and take the him based on choppy reports and poor scouting.

I wonder how teams decide who to sell their pick to. There had to be more than the Blazers asking for NO's, and more than the Bobcats asking for Denver's - how do they decide which team to sell the pick to?

Plus, it's pretty silly for NO to sell their pick to a team in the same conference, that is up-and-coming, just like themselves. Kerr, what were you thinking? Oh wait, that's right, this is the guy that traded Marion for an over-the-hill Shaq.

I thought last year was a good draft. I was pretty excited about that one as well.

The Bobcats have Michael Jordan and Larry Brown at the helms. [IMG]

The Sixers, on the other hand, have been having good luck lately. Hopefully, it will continue.

Here's PA SportsTicker's 2008 NBA Mock Draft. It was generated under the assumption that the Indiana Pacers received the 17th pick in Wednesday's reported trade with the Toronto Raptors.

Of course, it's all moot if any of the numerous rumored trades come to fruition prior to Thursday's draft at Madison Square Garden.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">1. Chicago Bulls </span>- Derrick Rose - guard - Memphis - The Bulls are playing it close to the vest, but we know this: Hometown kid, dynamic talent, easy pick.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">2. Miami Heat </span>- Michael Beasley - forward - Kansas State - His stock is dropping, at least in Miami, which is looking to shop this pick for more help. If the Heat hang on to the selection, 20 points and 10 boards will be a good consolation prize.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">3. Minnesota Timberwolves </span>- Brook Lopez - center - Stanford - Perfect frontcourt complement to Al Jefferson, who would move back to his natural position of power forward.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">4. Seattle SuperSonics</span> - O.J. Mayo - guard - Southern California - Maybe, the second best player in this draft. Forget about off-court issues. Stud wing to pair with Kevin Durant in Oklahoma City.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">5. Memphis Grizzlies</span> - Kevin Love - forward - UCLA - We know the Grizzlies don't need a point guard - they have three who are 22 or younger.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">6. New York Knicks</span> - Jerryd Bayless - guard - Arizona - Bayless could be Gilbert Arenas with more athleticism and without the blog. Sounds like he'd do just fine in Mike D'Antoni's free-wheeling offense.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">7. Los Angeles Clippers </span>- Russell Westbrook - guard - UCLA - Already better than Dan Dickau, Smush Parker, Brevin Knight ...

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">8. Milwaukee Bucks </span>- Joe Alexander - forward - West Virginia - Would give the Bucks some much-needed athleticism. Plus, Scott Skiles would like his toughness and old-school, mid-range game.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">9. Charlotte Bobcats</span> - Anthony Randolph - forward - Louisiana State - MJ most likely had his fill of unpolished big men (see: Kwame Brown). But he is a gambling man ...

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">10. New Jersey Nets</span> - Danilo Gallinari - forward - Italy - Doesn't fill NJ's need for interior scoring, but gives soft club some grit. The best player left on the board.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">11. Indiana Pacers </span>- Darrell Arthur - forward - Kansas - Jim O'Brien likes guys who can shoot the three. But the Pacers need someone - anyone - who can get them points in the paint.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">12. Sacramento Kings</span> - D.J. Augustin - guard - Texas - Pure point guard who has been maligned for being undersized. If Beno Udrih takes off as a free agent, Augustin could step in right away.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">13. Portland Trail Blazers </span>- Alexis Ajinca - forward - France - General manager Kevin Pritchard has the Blazers piling up tradable assets. Ajinca wouldn't fit into the team's immediate plans but would be appealing to other clubs.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">14. Golden State Warriors</span> - Kosta Koufos - center - Ohio State - Perfect player for Nellie-ball - a big man who loves to shoot.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">15. Phoenix Suns (via Atlanta)</span> - Brandon Rush - forward - Kansas - A tough defender who runs the court and doesn't need the ball to succeed. Sounds like the perfect role player for Steve Nash and the Suns.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">16. Philadelphia 76ers</span> - DeAndre Jordan - center - Texas A&M - Player with most untapped potential left on the board. Ed Stefanski's improving Sixers can risk taking on a project.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">17. Indiana Pacers (via Toronto)</span> - Robin Lopez - center - Stanford - The Pacers continue to grab some interior help.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">18. Washington Wizards</span> - JaVale McGee - center - Nevada - Everyone on the Wizards can score - we know that. But they need someone to protect the rim.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">19. Cleveland Cavaliers</span> - Donte Greene - forward - Syracuse - Gives LeBron some toughness and scoring punch. He may want a point guard but will have to settle an emerging and versatile forward.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">20. Charlotte Bobcats (via Denver)</span> - Roy Hibbert - center - Georgetown - New coach Larry Brown will like Hibbert's size, strength and shot-blocking ability. He won't like his striking lack of athleticism.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">21. New Jersey Nets (via Dallas) </span>- Marreese Speights - forward-center - Florida - Finally, a back-to-the-basket threat for the Nets. Nenad Krstic doesn't count.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">22. Orlando Magic - Courtney Lee</span> - swingman - Western Kentucky - Rashard Lewis is paid over $100 million to spot up for threes. Lee can do it for considerably less money.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">23. Utah Jazz</span> - Jason Thompson - forward - Rider - Jerry Sloan's type of player in the post - passes well, efficient with his footwork and competes hard. Nevermind his mid-major pedigree.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">24. Seattle SuperSonics (via Phoenix) </span>- Ryan Anderson - forward - California - If Durant can spread the floor, Anderson can take his range out to the arc. At 6-10, he'll be hard to bother.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">25. Houston Rockets</span> - Chris Douglas-Roberts - guard - Memphis - Smart player with leadership qualities. Will fit right in with Houston's overachieving supporting cast.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">26. San Antonio Spurs</span> - Nicolas Batum - forward - France - He's from overseas. Gregg Popovich will insist on drafting him.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">27. Portland Trail Blazers </span>- Nathan Jawai - forward - Australia - A bruising big man who does all the little things. Patrick Ewing had Charles Oakley, Greg Oden could have Jawai.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">28. Memphis Grizzlies (via LA Lakers)</span> - J.J. Hickson - forward - N.C. State - Not ready for the NBA - much like the rest of the Grizzlies. But he's a mobile big man, and there's always a spot for them.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">29. Detroit Pistons</span> - Serge Ibaka - forward - Congo - Rasheed Wallace may be on his way out of Detroit. Ibaka can bring some athleticism to that spot and add to the collection of young bench players in Motown.

<span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">30. Boston Celtics </span>- DeVon Hardin - center - If Kendrick Perkins' shoulder continues to be a problem, the world champs would have a Plan B at center.
