I want the Knicks to pick Bayless here. Pity has led me to root for them to at least become respectable again.
http://sportstwo.com/NBA/Story/NBA/2515089 Bulls take hometown kid Rose with No. 1 pick Thursday, June 26, 2008 07:39 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Derrick Rose will make it home after all. A super-athletic point guard, Rose on Thursday was selected first overall in the 2008 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls after weeks of speculation. Rose, who hails from the Windy City, led Memphis to a runner-up finish in his lone collegiate season and now will look for similar success with his hometown team. It wasn't an easy decision for the Bulls, who also were considering high-scoring forward Michael Beasley, who averaged 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds as a freshman at Kansas State. But Chicago could not pass up Rose, who promises to be the next great playmaker. With the rules changes in the NBA, point guards have become a hot commodity - and superstar point guards can be the key cog to a championship. Chris Paul, who finished second in this season's Most Valuable Player voting, transformed the New Orleans Hornets with his play at the point. The Bulls hope Rose has a similar effect on their struggling club. Chicago, which had 1.7 percent odds to land the first overall selection entering last month's lottery, may have stumbled into something great. A member of the NCAA Tournament All-Final Four team, Rose also was Conference USA Freshman of the Year, earning him a spot on the league's All-Conference first team. But his talents are best appreciated with the naked eye. The 6-3 Rose possesses a rare combination of power and athleticism, with the ability to finish with a strong dunk - a rare trait in a floor general. That position will be in flux for the Bulls, who may have to trade point guard Kirk Hinrich if Rose emerges as a star.

Rod Thorn was right today on his guarantee that Knicks would take Gallinari. I still think they could have done better or traded down to get him later.
http://sportstwo.com/NBA/Story/NBA/2515112 Heat tab Kansas State F Beasley with No. 2 pick Thursday, June 26, 2008 07:43 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) - Scoring - not size - mattered most to the Miami Heat. With the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft, the Heat tabbed high-scoring forward Michael Beasley on Thursday night. Despite the fact that Beasley was measured at 6-7 - three inches shorter than his listed height in college - his superb scoring ability could not be overlooked by Miami. Beasley averaged 26.2 points and a nation-leading 12.4 rebounds in his one and only season at Kansas State, scoring over 30 points on 13 occasions. Possessing a natural scoring ability, as evidenced by three 40-point performances, including a career-high 44, Beasley has a great touch around the basket, allowing him to finish in other ways besides a dunk. The smooth lefthander not only has shooting range out to the 3-point arc but he can face up a defender in the post and shoot it in his face. Beasley should provide a welcome addition to the Heat, who posted a league-worst 15-67 record last season despite the presence of superstar guard Dwyane Wade. One other notable stat for Beasley: He posted a nation-leading 28 double-doubles, breaking the freshman mark previously held by Syracuse's Carmelo Anthony, an All-Star forward for the Denver Nuggets.
