I'd heard he was a Stanford lean for a while. Closer to home, a winning program, and of course a full ride there comes with an excellent/valuable education. It is telling about Oregon's status that he felt it necessary to check out Eugene before he made his final decision.

The praise/credit for Harbaugh overseeing their recent rise as a football program coincides with a relaxing of entry requirements for athletes. Their scholastic entry requirements are still very high respective to most everyone else's, but before they were unattainable for all but a very elite few. For instance, Shittu's 3.8 HS GPA wouldn't have been enough a couple years back. Expect them to be a top national program for the foreseeable future.

given the choice, I'd probably rather the Ducks take a Schutt over a Shittu

it's just crazy how far the program has come in the perception of the recruits in such a short time. I'm reading the various articles on rivals of the cream of the 2012 crop who continually mention Oregon as one of the elite schools in the country along with Florida, Ohio State, Alabama... how getting an offer from the Ducks changes their whole outlook on where they might spend their college years. Top players from all over the country will be visiting Eugene this summer

Oregon has won the Pac 10 two years in a row and went to the national championship game yet only one of the guys (Matthews) was selected in the last NFL draft. What happens when Chip integrates this new level of talent he's been pulling?

yep that has me the most giddy. We are seeing LMJ and DT and co but I cant wait to see what is done with the likes of Lache, DeAnthony, Lyerla, Heimuli, etc... these are Blue Chips that CK has to work with.. could be a fun fun ride.

the thing I'd like to point out from this commitment is that Evan had offers from Arizona, Boise St, Colorado, Colorado St, Duke, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Stanford, UCLA & Utah... which is a pretty impressive list.

Oregon offered this week and he jumped at it

Re: 2012 Commits and Recruiting News

Great pick up, but why in the world would a TE commit to Oregon if they have offers from more pro style offense schools?

    Again, great pick up

Re: 2012 Commits and Recruiting News

Ed Dickson, Donte Rosario, are in the pros, and David Paulson will be a top 3 round pick next year. I dont think TE's and RB's in particular are scared off by the spread.

    highlight link

runs a spread in HS. Junior year had 21 TD passes + 21 running TDs. His recruiting really blew up following the Stanford elite 11 camp a month back. That generated a ton of interest and offers from big time schools... look for him to be a 4 star on both sites by the fall

I wasn't aware of it, but it looks like ESPN has some Elite 11 on-line reality show. Featured heavily in this weeks episode is new Duck commit Jake Rodrigues... enjoy! Once you click the link you have to select it from the videos available

highlights of one of the top WR targets Nelson Agholor who rivals currently rates as the #9 overall prospect. His quotes indicate he's really high on the Ducks mostly because of talks with Kelly and Frost

I really really REALLY hope that we can get Frost a pay raise and/or a higher position soon. I like the future of him. And the fact that he turned down Nebraska shows he wants to be here. We need to reward people like that! Assistant OC to Helfrich?
