Sorry don't buy it... Tedford on hot seat for two years.. No championships and no chance they'll catch us or Stanford in the north. They can't beat USC in the south who also has a few national championships to brag about with recruits... So how again are they out recruiting both of our programs again? Big difference between grabbing 1 five* recruit in DAT and a home grown kid in Colt, and arguably the 3 best defensive 5* recruiting class of the west... BIG DIFFERENCE! That with no Pac-10 or 12 championship and no BCS appearances.

    It will draw some attention!

It seems to me that winning is not the major factor when it comes to a PSA making his decision. Justin on DT always says location seems to be the most important to PSA's, as most kids want to play close to home. There's a reason why teams like Michigan, Texas, Florida, USC, CAL, and Florida State will always do good in recruiting is because they are located in states that have prime high school football competition.

Secondly, playing time and relationships with the coaches would probably be second before winning.

you do realize that Cal already had an in with Shaq with his brother Syd'Quan playing there before. The Beavers must have cheated to get JaQuizz then, and it couldnt have had anything to do with James Rodgers being there already, and having that familiarity? Mccarthy by almost every account is like 95% USC so not sure why you are including him in that, I mean Cal could "potentially" get him, but technically so could we I guess :dunno: so that leaves Armstead. who is from Elk Grove, which is a WHOPPING 90 miles from Berkley... so he couldnt qualify as homegrown, like Lyerla is to us? I find it ironic that someone who accused a bunch of other people in here as "Homer" type posters, couldnt see this?

I guess we just disagree.... I go to a team that will get me exposure and a national championship if I'm a 5* talent like these guys, in the Pac-12, that's USC, Oregon and "MAYBE" Stanford, we'll see how Luck finally does. To go to a program that will be worked by USC and Oregon for the next 4 years seems like a waste of talent at that level and could hurt my final stock and my overall college football experience. That's why at their level I'd pick a BCS type of team and Cal is not one of those teams!

BTW- Oregon and USC "ARE" the Pac-12 right now and for the foreseeable future, I think everyone in the country would agree with that! So when you see this type of talent opting for Cal, of course it's going to raise a flag. Has nothing to do with being a homer. It's the same as when Auburn pulled two of the top ten recruiting classes the last few years over teams like Bama and LSU... It's exactly why everyone from Florida is feeling so uneasy about Meyer taking over at OSU... Talk to some alum down there and see how they would describe Meyer's recruiting habbits.... Eye opener for sure!!!! I would suggest this is a make or break year for Tedford and recruiting violations are the least of his worries. As we've seen USC can win several championships be put on probations, and come rolling right back!

BTW- McCarthy after visiting Oregon said the Ducks were his new #1 and they'd be tough to beat... now Cal is on his list... it's just surprising.... And as for Armstead his brother is being mishandled at USC and that has affected his comit there as he was a solid Trojan in sept......

Why should it raise a flag?

Cal is in a prime recruiting location with a major market city right next to them. They are known for their academics and they have a better history than us of sending players to the NFL in recent years. Not only that, word is their D-line coach Tosh Lupoi is one of the best recruiters around. He's really young and seems to relate to all the PSA's. Everytime I read about a PSA visiting Cal they always seem to bring up how great "Coach Tosh" is.

Kelly could have visited Armstead after his in-home with Kyle Murphy. but instead chartered a flight to Hawaii to meet with Buckner. San Clemente is only about a 30 minute drive to Irvine where Armstead lives.

It's either they value Buckner more or it is indeed true that Armstead is a heavy lean towards Cal.

That being said though Oregon should be getting some good news, as I think Buckner will be committing to us soon as he cancelled his trip to Cal(which is huge). Also I believe we are the favorite right now to land Kyle Long who would help bolster the offensive line next year as the Ducks will likely look to make a run for the National Championship.

Jeremy Castro took a surprise unofficial visit to UCLA the other day, but says he is all Duck.

"Oh I'm committed to Oregon, I'm a Duck," Castro said. "I went yesterday because I have a younger brother that wanted to check it out. My older brother kind of wanted to meet the coaches too since Mora coached in the NFL. But it doesn't matter to me, I'm all Oregon."

Will Castro be taking any future visits?

"Nope, I have been telling coaches that call me not to waste their time," he said. "They have all started to back off which has been nice. I just can't wait to get up to Eugene and start helping out the team."

"I can't wait to watch the Ducks on Jan. 2 in the Rose Bowl," he said. "I'm not going but I'm not going to miss watching it. I love my team and I think they are going to win big. I think the Ducks win 38-20 over Wisconsin."

4 star athlete (according to Scout) and only two offers - from Oregon and SMU ? ?

Those pesky Scout losers! Why they always pickin' on us?

15 pound difference between ESPN and Scout weights.

According to ESPN, UCLA, WSU and Tennessee had also offered him and Auburn, Arkansas, USC, Florida State and Utah had also recruited him.

We'll see if he goes down a star now that he's committed to Oregon. :)

I wonder if that's due to the info on one or the other is from 2008 when he came out of high school.

The first recruiting cycle he certainly was hot stuff... and then he decided to play baseball at FSU.

He's only got one year of eligibility, I believe, so hopefully he's good enough to make a difference while he's here.

Yes, he has 1 year of eligibility, but he is appealing for a second year. Scout just recently had him as a five star about a week ago but had moved him down to 4. He is a big time commitment and I suspect he might start right away as Darrion Weems is moving on.

If we miss on McCarthy(which is more than likely) I want us to offer this guy.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS_SWmrrmYA&feature=player_embedded#!

He's only a 2*star and his offer sheet is unimpressive, but I have a feeling that has a lot to do with his height. He's 6'1" 280 pounds. Smaller guys get great leverage and there have been some pretty good DT's at that height. Would be great at NT/DT.

Anyways just thought I'd throw that out there as I've heard this guy really wants an offer from Oregon.

Also 2011 5 star RB Brandon Williams is transferring to Texas A&M from Oklahoma. Texas A&M already has 3 RB's coming in this class and another big one with this transfer. I wonder if this helps us with Trey Williams as the coach runs a pass heavy offense.

Nevermind about Trey Williams. He officially eliminated us and sighted that it was just too far from home.

Also it's the dead period starting today till January 3rd. So it's going to be rather quiet on the recruiting front till then.
