The thinking here is to decide who the Blazers would pick at the currently-polled spot. Pick based on the current roster, even if it's unrealistic that the team could move up without making changes. If the guy you'd prefer isn't listed, vote for "other" and comment on who you'd pick. Ideally I'll change the options, although I don't anticipate too many "others" winning. I plan on having each pick up for a day or two. Ideally, we'll end up with the community's "top 11" list, in order of preference, just in time for the draft on June 28. Previous picks: 1: Anthony Davis 2: Thomas Robinson 3: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 4. Andre Drummond 5. Bradley Beal
BPA: Harrison Barnes Upside: Dion Waiters The rest of the list IMO are more candidates for the #11 pick.
I chose Barnes. Great athleticism, he had some all time elite numbers at the combine. Good size for the wing positions. More versatile to constructing a roster then MKG because he can shoot the ball, so we don't require the guards on the floor to be great shooters. Has a chance to be the best player in this draft, which I don't see from the other choices. Lillard or Sullinger could be great picks at 11 but not at #6.
Henson, Lamb and Sullinger I wouldn't take at 21. I don't get the love for Waiters...not saying he's a scrub, but I'm not a fan yet. Lillard fits a need, and from the last two weeks seems to have catapulted himself up into the Tier Two level. Barnes is a guy I'm thinking is 80% chance of absolute beast and 20% chance of "OK SF." I wouldn't pooh-pooh either, but I think that if Lillard really is all about embracing the team-first passing stuff and not the one-on-five stuff I think "Combo guards" pull he'd be the choice. We can get an "upside" SF or SG later, if we'd like.
Barns is batum with a worse shot. Lillard is the wat to go. I actually like barns, but just one spot later.
You take BPA. So even though Lillard may have been the guy you targeted with the pick. You don't let Barnes slip by. With that said, if you still covet Lillard. Take your 11th pick, your second rounders, cash and move up. If it takes the 11the and Elliot Williams to move up to 7th. Maybe you do that if you are sure about Lillard.
Why the comparison to one of the greatest perimeter players to ever play that position in Glen Rice then?
Similar frames and a similar looking shot, but the shooting stats stop there. Rice college FG .569 FT .797 3pt .480 Barns FG .440 FT .723 3pt .358 I think barns is going to be good, but nothing special. In a normal draft, getting him at 6 would be great, but I think there are better prospects out there in this deep draft.
I think Barnes is a sleeper in this draft. He is still improving, and I think he is the least risky pick here. It's close for me, though... Lillard looks like the higher cieling pick, IMO. I went Barnes, but it is marginal.
Barnes, without a doubt.... I think he will be a better pro than college player...and that mid range game will do him wonders in the NBA....
So a guy who was a disappointment in college you expect to be better in the NBA, but a guy who excelled in college you expect to suck.. Okie dokie
I think the Blazers sit in a good spot, because even though I choose Lillard, I think Barns, Lamb and Henson are also good selections that I expect to be at least decent in the NBA. For me, just stay away from Sullinger and Waiters at #6, I don't care for either of them in the NBA.
Lillard is an old (for a draft pick) shoot-first PG that played at a lower level of competition. I can't think of any of those that have turned out well in the NBA. Maybe Joe Dumars, but he was an exceptional player (and an exception) and he was bigger than Lillard. Am I missing someone/someone more recent? Ed O.
