The X-Factor with Sacramento is culture. Cousins is nutty and Tyreke is a chucker. The team lacks veteran presence and the coaching staff doesn't seem to command much respect. I think conventional wisdom is that they would prefer a Robinson, MKG, Barnes type who have a great attitude, winning mentality, professional approach, leadership, coachable, play the game the right way, etc. as opposed to a Drummond or Perry Jones type. Dunno if they see Cousins as a career PF or C, but perhaps they're flexible depending on what other opportunities arise?
I think the odds are lower that he won't versus will ... but at six you might as well swing for the fences (assuming T-Rob or Beal are not there when they pick).
This draft is pretty huge when you consider the talent pool that will be available next year and possibly 2014. According to Ford, the scouts he has talked to say that next years draft is very week and 2014 isn't shaping up to be much better.
With the lack of ANY young talent on this roster you can't trade these picks for a late-20's (Lowry) vet or the future is going to be pretty damn bleak.
Yeah I tend to think that these types of guys will give you some kind of return, you may have to wait quite a while though. Dwight worked out great, but he was a much more highly touted prospect. Bynum went 10th overall and I believe he had similar questions, he worked out. Favors made strides this season and looks like he'll have a nice career ahead of him. Even Kwame, who seemingly broke mentally in addition to just plain old having garbage hands and questionable passion for the game has turned into a solid defensive C. Shithead Erick Dampier carved out a decade plus career despite being a tremendously lazy POS. Drummond has a long way to go but if you protect your investment in him and get a staff/big man coach to work one on one with him a lot I think at worst he'll be a solid starting C.
Amen. I'd like to see us buy a pick in the 20's. There's enough solid talent in the 20's. Or buy a pick, and package that with one of our picks to move up a couple spots to ensure we get who we want.
Per Twitter... The Hornets have their #10 pick on the block but you have to take back either Ariza or Okafor. That's a tough pill to swallow.
Okafor wouldn't be too bad if we could get them to take Nolan Smith and Shawne Williams off our hands. Sure, he'd eat up some space but we'd get another lotto pick and a decent center for the next few years.
Highly touted (top 5) high school prospects in this draft: Drummond (2012 #1, able to get into school early) 2011 - Davis (#1), Rivers (#2), MKG (#3), Beal (#4), Teague (#5), Q.Miller (#7), Wroten (#14) 2010 - Barnes (#2), Sullinger (#5), P.Jones (#9), W.Barton (#11), T.Jones (#13) 2009 - Henson (#5), Jenkins (#15), White (#19)
Eat up SOME space? Okafor is supposed to make 13mil next year, and then 14 after that. They should just drop the amnesty bomb on him.
I would consider it for Okafor, he is grossly overpaid ($13.5\$14.5 mil) but only for 2 more years and he fills a position of need.... Problem is he would eat up all your cap space to go and get a PG in FA, even if you snent N.Smith and S.Williams back..... Ariza might be a better bet at $7mil, if you could send back Williams and or Smith you would still have $8-9mil to sign a FA....
I think we could still snag someone for 9 mil a year or something like that. The thing is, I'm not convinced we could get someone in free agency this year that we couldn't do better in the draft at #10.
Yeah but if you can get Ariza (owed around $7mil for 2 more seasons), get a FA PG like Dragic or G.Hill, and have #6, #10 & #11 in this draft...I think that would be a good use of cap space...Ariza could play some SF, move Batum to SG....
