French paper L'Equipe is reporting that we signed Per Mertesacker last night. I'll believe it when I see it on Arsenal.com.
Arsenal scouts are scouting Lukas Podolski, who played 95 times for the german national team. Actually he's playing for my home team, FC Koln. He's one of the best scorers this season, 11 goals and 5 assists in 13 bundesliga matches. German sources are talking about a 23,000,000 Euro (19,700,000£) transfer fee. Yes, since summer. But supposedly, they should be interested again. We will see. Arsenal ist the only team - actually - who I could imagine the player Lukas Podolski. Besides to FC Koln.
I would love to see Podolski at the club. Would be a fantastic addition to the striking force. I can't wait for Wilshere's return!
For the record I think we need goalscoring support, and Podolski, despite some past issues, would be a good fit. I'm always keen on Polish-German nationals in any case. *knock on wood* We can't expect RVP to be healthy all campaign long. The guy hasn't had a stretch like this in some time.
Yep, heard about that. Much like Wilshere's loan move to Bolton. It will be interesting to see how we use Frimpong in the future. First-team place, perhaps?
Doubt it. Song is in his prime and getting better. I don't think Frimpong will want to wait four-six years. Ditto for Coquelin. We'll probably develop and sell both of them, sadly.
The question is, do Arsenal need him? van Persie is seeded, Arsenal still have Gervinho, Walcott, Miyaichi, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Young, Arshavin and Chamakh. The strongest position, between forward and offense midfield, isn't available in this system. Right winger isn't good enough for Podolski. He's just left-fooded. So, Podolski would play as left winger. And Arsenal have good players there. But Arsenal would be great for Podolski. Maybe the perfect team. Wenger is a awesome former and that is what Podolski need to have good performances. Frimpong is a huge talent. Maybe he could replace Song soon. I think, he has more potential than Song.
I agree that he doesn't fit in when RVP is playing but I think you've been following the team and are aware just how ineffective Chamakh & Park have been. I think Podolski is the kind of player that can step in and score goals but I doubt he'd want to be our second choice, and he's probably too expensive for that role on the team--which is why Wenger is downplaying his interest, despite some being there. With Walcott and Gervinho firmly established on the wings it would be a big risk to shake things up with a new signing in that area. We need someone not good enough to start but much better than our reserves--which usually means either a young player, one we don't currently have, or an old one (like when we were interested in Joe Cole).
Podolski is a very awkward player. He must feeling fine to perform good matches. I don't think that he's comfortable as a backup player. If he switch to Arsenal, Podolski is eligible for first-team-regular. Wenger have to put one very expensive player on the bench, if he confides on Theo Walcott. Podolski is mercurial and useless to be a backup. But if he is first-team-regular he is strong enough to decide alone some matches. And in combination to van Persie, he would be awesome, because both players are type of player, which loves to rotate in the course of the match. But maybe, Wenger could be change the system to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-2: 4-2-3-1: --------------------v. Persie-------------------- Gervinho-----------Podolski--------------Walcott 4-2-2-2: --------------Podolski---v.Persie-------------- Gervinho------------------------------Walcott But it's extremly offensive...
Frimpong has gone to Mick McCarthy's Wolves on loan. Wenger had to choose between Frimpong and Coquelin and chose Coquelin to stay (or maybe there wasn't a good loan opportunity for Coquelin as there was for Frimmy). TH expected to sign soon. Wenger looking for at least one fullback and perhaps a winger during the window. Rumour has Arshavin and Rosicky on the block but I have a hard time believing we'd be a selling team this January considering our recent run of form. Best not to disturb that much unless we can bring-in a world class player (yet most would be cup tied and we still have champion's league games to play).
The Gunners are reportedly interested in Argentine winger Matias Suárez ("Oreja"). He plays for Anderlecht and has 11 goals in 24 appearances this season.
Eden Hazard says he will finish the season with Lille and move to England in the summertime. No team specified but Arsenal would seem to be the frontrunner.
Barca youth Jon Toral has signed a pro deal with the club. Hmm, this could only end well... http://www.arsenal.com/news/reserves-news/jon-toral-signs-professional-contract-at-club
Zenit SP are hoping for Arshavin on loan and the cheeky Russian might want to go. Supposedly they have offered a 1m loan bonus to Arsenal to sweeten the deal.
