At least, until he clears waivers. Then he could be signed for the vet. minimum, if he couldn't get more somewhere.

To be fair, they couldn't stop him - it was up to him.

MOZGOV. Although it's probably an open question seeing as the original is in cyrillic. It's like Sergei Monia vs. Sergey Monya.

It was up to him, but they pushed him out rather than letting him run the show. Josh Kroenke and Tim Connelly are killing the team.

So then, you prefer Moзгoв. OK, we can go with that.

People on hoopshype reporting Granger for Scola is a done deal.

Big news for Indy as they desperately needed depth

Yeah, Granger isn't being traded for Scola.

Looking at the salaries, Gerald Green matches, but I don't see why Phoenix would want him, unless maybe Indy were sending Plumlee as well. Or Indy could send Mahinmi (alone), but that would leave Plumlee as their only backup C.

There don't seem to be a lot of ways to make the deal work without including a part of their core.

Thunder are really worried about their cap situation.

In the frontcourt? They've got Mahinmi and Plumlee... not to mention that they just overpaid for Chris Copeland. That's not a bad back-up rotation at all, especially when your starting PF and C can handle a lot of playing time.

Who would start if this trade goes through... West or Scola? I know West just got the big deal, but I think I'd have to give the bulk of the minutes to Scola.

Based on their performances last year, why would you want to play Scola over West?

Damn, Scola's numbers have really taken more of a beating than I had thought... how the hell did he only get 27 mpg in Phoenix?

Either way, the point is that he's still a starter on a lot of teams, and I'm wondering how you split 48 minutes between him and West (because really, their per-36 numbers are pretty damn similar). It's just an interesting move for a team that was already pretty solid upfront.

BTW - Am I the only one who still sees a lot of value in Shannon Brown?

If this trade is really a Scola/Green swap at the core, the Suns would have effectively brought in a new PG, two SG's, and a SF this offseason... all of the positions Brown could play.

That sets a bad precedent. Kinda like signing a FA then dealing them almost immediately once the season began.

Add into the fact the owners just gave $15 Million to the thunder because of a dispute about the CBA and Durants contract and you have a move that would make Sterling proud.

I didn't realize that the rookie scale was more of a "guideline." For some reason, I thought those first round salaries were set in stone at the rookie scale.

With that said, I also wonder if Andre Roberson didn't make a verbal deal with the Thunder to accept 80% of scale before the draft. Not that he was significantly overdrafted, but he could have easily slipped into the no-mans land of the 2nd round, where he'd be auditioning for a deal at this point. This sounds like his agent might have struck a deal to get the Thunder to draft in the first round, which entails guaranteed money, even at 80%.

^Decent thought, NOVoodoo, but then why did it take a month of negotiation to get there? And why is all the reporting that OKC "wouldn't go above 80%"?

The differences between what Roberson will get at #26 and Goodwin will get at #29:
    4 yrs/ $4,618,369
    or
    4 yrs/ $6,637,939

for a difference of $2,019,569 over 4 years to the "worse" player, a raise of 44%

Yeah... can't explain the months of negotiating, but we also have no idea what was going on behind the scenes. I'm sure once the team's lawyers get involved with negotiations, the implicit agreements become less friendly.

As far as comparing his salary to Goodwin's though, aren't rookie deals only guaranteed for two seasons, with team options thereafter? How do those figures look over two years, because most players tend restructure their contracts once "options" become involved.

Either way... his 80% contract is a better alternative than playing in the NBDL without a deal.
