High risk, high reward. Bennett has a chance to be a better version of the Manimal and could possibly step in the PF spot if LA is moved down the road.

Orlando has been doing a great deal of work on players in late lottery-mid 1st round range, weighing possible deals out of No. 2 spot.

If management thinks in this way; we are doomed... The pay scale for a player is absolutely a factor in the new CBA. The luxury tax penalties are kicking in and teams won't pay them for role players that make 11-12 mil per season. Sorry, I disagree. If you are making anything more than 9 mil; you better be more than a role player, IMO.

This. It does matter in the new CBA. No more free spending, get above the tax and you're screwed now, if its repeated at least.

Batum, at his current pay rate, is GUARANTEED to be either our second or third highest earner, NO MATTER WHAT.

So he better be our second or third best player, but I don't see this team winning a championship with him as the second best player. Third, possibly, if he makes significant improvement dribbling and his defense steps up again.

The guy seemingly NEVER plays a great offensive game with a great defensive game, which is what he is capable of.

no way can I see Por, after the experiences of Roy and Oden, taking a chance on a guy with knees like Gordon and a huge contract left to pay - simply no way in Hell!

You need consistency when you pay a player that much of you cap. No excuses when you make that kind of cash. Your wrist hurts and it's affecting your jumper? Then you need to impact the game in other ways.

I agree... it's just not smart to have a player like that on this roster.

I keep running into Gordon's dad here at the gym where I play pickup. Apparently he's heavily involved in a youth bball camp. I should ask him about his son's health sometime.

Might be worth a risk with our new medical staff and all.

It would be soooooo bitter sweet. They would be paying a huge luxury tax, injured Kobe and only offer min MLE for a free-agent.

I understand what you guys are saying about Batum and the CBA. It's important in the new CBA to watch the budget and not 'overpay' on 'roleplayers'. Whether that applies to Batum -- you guys seem to think it does. However, his salary at this point is a done deal. The team can't cut his salary. What's done is done. If he's an anchor, try to trade him. In the context of Batum's salary, the only thing that's relevant to me is, does trading him improve the team or provide the probability to improve the team?

In the meantime, when Batum scores 14 points, gets 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a block, and guards the other team's most athletic wing player, its the same 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a block, and the same wing defense, regardless the contract he signed last year.

What puzzles me is that it's as if some people think those contributions are less impactful on the court the more a player is paid. Maybe that's not how it's meant, but it seems that way sometimes.

My beef isn't as much as the statistical category as it is on the leadership factor. I think he is still timid on the offensive end. He really needs to look for his shot more and work in areas that can get him to the line. If Aldridge is truly going to be traded; his step up needs to be much improved. He now becomes the #2 option on the team; which I hope 14 ppg isn't the norm for a #2.
