The biggest thing will be health, but if they're healthy going into the playoffs I think they could make some real noise. Plus they've got Terry coming off the bench? I think they could give Miami a real run for their money.

they're being smart and getting something for virtually nothing. If they weren't traded to a contender, KG would have retired, Pierce would have been cut, and Rivers would be collecting $7M/year to coach scrubs. As it is, they're getting 4 first-round picks out of their tear-down. pretty good haul.

Definitely! NYK just got knocked down a peg...but I never considered them anything more than Pretenders anyway.

    Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 53s
Kevin Garnett will agree to trade to Brooklyn and Celtics are sending KG and Paul Pierce to the Nets, league sources tell Y! Sports.

100 million payroll. Should be interesting.

I hate it that twitter is reporting Memphis is getting Kosta Koufas for Darrell Arthur
and the 55th pick. Are they awake in the Blazer draft room?

    WTF Blazers?

    Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 7m
Hearing Grizzlies have trade in the works: Darrell Arthur and 55th pick will be dealt to Denver for Kosta Koufos

Do I need to bolt the hospital and storm the war room?

    Why?

Why would they have any interest in such a middling player like Kosta Koufos?

BigGameDamian- seriously do you have some issue about posting in proper threads? You should start 30 more threads of utter redundancy!

The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics are engaged in ongoing discussions on a trade involving Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. The deal has reached the ownership level and Garnett will waive his no-trade clause for the deal to go through.

The Nets would trade Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans on a sign-and-trade and three first round picks to the Celtics for Garnett, Pierce and Jason Terry. Brooklyn would also send first round picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018. Howard Beck of the New York Times reports that the 2016 and 2018 picks would be unprotected.

The Nets will fully guarantee the $12 million owed to Garnett for the 14-15 season.

The Celtics held discussions on a trade of Garnett to the Clippers as part of the Doc Rivers' deal. The NBA has blocked the Clippers and Celtics from trading any players this season.

The Celtics are motivated to begin rebuilding their roster.

@MySecondEmpire: Paul Pierce and KG going to Brooklyn just doubled its median age. Not the team. The borough.

Next season is going to be a tank fest. Even the Lakers are likely to get in on the action.

If we are going to trade Aldridge we need to do it before we win a bunch of meaningless games -- like we did this year.

GSs tankfest got them Barnes, ours got us McCollum. It's all good.

(Now we just have to trade Wes+Aldridge+cap space for Griffin+Jordan)

    Official 2013 Free Agency thread

We had a dedicated draft thread, why not a FA thread?

Will we go for an injury prone Beatle?

Or a guy that is allergic to defense?

    I guess we'll find out July 1st.

ASIK is numero uno target, not a FA but in trade if they get Dwight

    Dalembert numero dos IMO

Anyone who can play defense, rebound, and start at center would be good.

Asik or Dalembert would be good. However, Gortat should be highly available as the suns just drafted Len who they will want to start.

Re: Official 2013 Free Agency thread

I think our #1 target should be a starting center. #2 should be another big man possibly with the room exception. #3 should be a defensive PG.

I'd go after Bynum first, if he wants more than 2 years guaranteed then go for Asik. If we could absorb multiple contracts such as Lin that would give the Rockets cap space for Howard plus Josh Smith or whoever else. I'm not sure about Gortat is he really the defender we want? Dalembert would be ok but at that point your talking about an MLE player not a free agent worth a high salary.

If we really strike out on the centers do we just run with Leonard/Whitney and sign a guy like Jermaine Oneal? We could instead use our cap space on the best bang for the buck, perhaps Paul Millsap can be had and we could play LaMarcus at center with him for more stretches.
