Odds are we will offer low 3 star Sam Darnold, and get a bunch of players with potential this cycle.

Sam Darnold? Last QB to come out of San Clemente was that Wilson kid and he couldn't stay upright at Utah.

I say take no QB and go all in on Malik Henry next year. USC and UCLA have Town and Rosen so no need to fear

In addition, I'm not sold on Waller. Too raw in my opinion and it looks like Urban Meyer is working his silver tongue again.

    This is terrible

I have been preoccupied with stuff, and haven't been able to follow as closely as I'd like. Does it seem to anyone, or everyone else that Helfrich has really been a step down in recruiting so far?

As of May 28, 2014 the Ducks have 4 commits for the 2015 cycle which is more then any other year in the past 5 except 2012 when they also had 4. The average amount of recruits they've had at this time during that span is 2.2. Of note is that this figures to be a small class (15 or so) because they don't have many Seniors.

I seem to recall you lodging this same complaint last year

    lol

    I did

    Rivals recruiting rankings

    2010 - 13
    2011 - 9
    2012 - 16
    2013 - 22
    2014 - 26

There is a noticable drop when Helfrich took over.

This is not a complaint, mind you, just an observation and a question if anyone else noticed and was in turn worried.

You're not the only one who noticed the decline in rankings. Then again, I'll be the biggest tamu fan ever if Kyle Allen rips it up and locks the starting job, or by some act of god get Barnett out of his commitment to ND.

I'm hearing ohio state has been whispering their silver tongues into Wallers ear now that Gibson isn't as interested. At this rate we will have to rely on another Lockie/Hobbs

2013 and 2014 classes were both impacted by the hanging NCAA cloud, as well as the uncertainty of Chip Kelly's future at Oregon.

Thats not the question I thought you were asking, but lets take a look inside the numbers. When rivals figures a class's ranking, they add their individual rating for the highest 20 rated kids in a class. If a team's class has 20+ kids, they can avoid the rating sting that comes with having a kicker in the class or a kid from a rural area that rivals hasn't scouted. Not surprisingly, the two top class rankings in your post (2010, 2011) had by far the most kids (23). Mostly because they aren't seeing a significant turnover of underclassman washing out academically, the last two classes are the two smallest in your set of 5 featuring 20 & 19 kids. This next class only has 15 or so spots available... so regardless of the quality of the recruits this figures to be the lowest rivals ranked class in years

Looking back on those high ranked 2010 & 2011 classes, what struck me was how many of the highly ranked kids never made any impact whatsoever. Blackmon, Sumler, Anthony Wallace, Curtis White to name a few. Seastrunk DAT & Colt were the marquee 5*s but here's guessing they'll all be looking up at 3 former 3*s (Marcus, Hronis, Fisher) from those same two classes in the next NFL draft. Of course overall Oregon's results have consistently outpaced their recruiting rankings, so maybe their long tenured coaching staff knows a thing or two about what they're doing? I'm a lot more worried about when coaches Campbell, Greatwood, Neal & Ratcliffe decide to retire then I will be about the decisions they're making today.

rely on them to what...be the 3rd or 4th string QB in 2015? :MARIS61:

Waller was on the phone with Frost last night and is planning on visiting Eugene (again) in June. He says he'll announce in July.

I'm not overly concerned about those rankings. We're recruiting for a specific system and I wouldn't expect to have top 10 classes.

Moving on. Francois seems to have moved on, which means we are down to Darnold or Waller (neither of which have firm offers yet). Waller seems to have some strange attitude/ perception thing going on. Darnold is limited in tape missing entire last season with an injury issue.

Waller there is probably more of a concern that if he doesn't win starter as a true freshman he may look to go elsewhere (note very unlikely he would win unless he drastically improves)

We are visiting locksley soon, and may offer him chance at QB before we move on to Darnold and maybe even waller.

After taking the commitment of either we will still pursue Barnett and Murry and save them a spot if we can flip either (both extremely unlikely.)

I would say Waller/Locksley and if we don't get either Darnold.

We're boned. Barnett seems sold on ND unless Malik Zaire balls hard, and Kyler has the sick-mom defense alongside of the death threats from TAMU fans and boosters if he committed elsewhere.

Here are some Dual Threat QBs we could offer:

    Kalen Whitlow from Alabama

    Lamarr Jackson from Florida
    http://247sports.com/Player/Lamar-Jackson-22699

    Dion Ray from Louisanna

    Or from Oregon itself:

yes they were, but again... in no recruiting cycle under Kelly did Oregon ever have three 4* verbals this early. That they're doing this despite having far fewer scholarships to offer should go a long ways towards soothing your ratings worries over the Helfrich regime's ability to recruit.

Blake Barnett just finished an unofficial in Eugene. No real news yet.
