I think it's the paucity of prime shooting guards. And I'm not sold on giving him a max contract either. I think we try to trade before the deadline, and/or do as others have said and follow last summer's model, and acquire and develop guys with upside.
Okay, as if BGD's endorsement isn't enough of a reason to NOT want DeRozan (sorry BGD, just pokin' a bit of fun atcha), after comparing them I am 100%, hands down AGAINST signing (or trading for) DeRozan. We already have a better player in Henderson. The only thing that DeRozan is better at is FTA. Part of the reason for that is due to the fact that he dominates the ball. Let's end this silly talk of signing a crappy player to a max contract. We just narrowly dodged a bullet this past summer, let's not jump in front of another.
Thanks for the stats. I will say the usage rate of 28.4 is a big bonus of DeRozan. Hendo is at 20.7 which is just average for one of the 5 guys on the court. DeRozan is taking some of those difficult shots when the offense breaks down and the clock runs out. That really lowers DeRozan percentages. We should really be comparing the last 3 or 4 years of stats with them; one year has too much noise. I'm not sure I'd want to purse DeRozan at all in free agency but he's certainly a far superior scorer than Hendo. The high usage is a double edged sword; it shows more ability to score but what about him fitting in with a new offense and new teammates? Thats a judgement call Neil has to make. Will a player such as DeRozan increase his efficiency in a few less attempts if he has a better offense around him? Or will he always take some of those poor shots? There are many cases of players following either path. Neil has to project that future.
None of those players will be free. They will all cost a shit ton of money. Can't wait for the team that hangs themselves giving Batum a max contract.
Ask and ye shall receive! Career comparison below. I don't see DeRozan increasing his efficiency much as his usage rate decreases. He's a poor shooter, and he just doesn't seem like an intelligent player. I think he'd continue taking bad shots. Regardless, I think the numbers prove that he's NOT worth a max contract - let some other stupid GM overpay for him.
If he leaves Toronto seems like a good candidate for the Lakers, Knicks, Nets. Those teams won't contend regardless and won't get the MVP free agents but need someone to sell tickets.
Well starting in about 3 weeks, (hopefully) we will have 4 months to audition Henderson up close. He will start out rusty, but by the all star break we should have a pretty good idea of what he can do. With a new 3 year contract he would be 28, 29, 30. During the summer I was open to getting DeRozan because I like the way he scores in the paint. He jumps over people. But I admit I am being overly influenced by one game in which we had no answer for him. Obviously by looking at his stats he didn't do it very often. I agree with the Hendo comparison. If Gerald plays well he will be offered at least 10-12 per with the new cap, but that will be far less than DeRozan. Anxious to see what we already have.
Derozan is from Cali. IF we wanted him, I see us possibly getting a meeting and I feel Olshey can sell with the best of them. But I think the Lakers will be the favorites
We don't sign any of them if we don't trade for a star. Only one we could plug into a rebuild is Montiejunas, but we are already stacked with bigs.
I wouldn't consider Hendo at $10+ mil per season. Athletic wings age very poorly as they approach age 30. Think of Gerald Wallace. I would certainly consider resigning him at a cheaper price depending on how he plays this year.
Yes; much better. He was the 2nd offensive option for large stretches of last season for a team that won 56 games.
Players ballin out who fit with the core: Ryan Anderson Festus Ezeli Evan Fournier Allen Crabbe (!!!) My lord this FA class SUCKS.
