I want Payton because he's a 2x DPOY at PG, and because maybe his presence would be enough to get his dad to come and work with Dame.

I see us using assets to get a pick or possibly being a go between for some other teams to complete a trade, and for our troubles we get a second round pick

His 3rd cousin Dean Uthoff played for Iowa State in the 70's, and was drafted by the Spurs in 1980. He never played in the NBA but he did play in Australia in the 80's and 90's. A big bruising center, Dean "The Man Mountain" Uthoff holds the NBL record for most rebounds in a game (34), and has four of the top six highest rebounding games. His NBL career shooting percentage is 60.3%.

He's lived in Australia since he was 5, so I doubt it.

Thon Maker is a guy you have to take a chance on. He has years to put on muscle and once he does, he could very well be the best center in the league. It's rare you find high upside like that in the late 1st

The kid as a junior was number 1 on recruiting list. He has alot of skills but need put on muscle the good thing the Blazers can wait for him for a year to add muscle and develope more.

Dude is way less polished than Vonleh even. He has some work to do before becoming a rotation player. You're right though, he does have tremendous upside. Not sure there are enough minutes for him to make it worth trading up to get him. Most likely would be Davis, Plumlee, or Vonleh that would need to go to make if worth while.

I think Vonleh is a safer bet, similar skill set albeit in a smaller body. Already knows the system and showed some improvement over the course of the season.

If Vonleh makes the leap next year and we bring in Horford then we should be set with the frontcourt depth of Horford, Plumlee, Vonleh and Davis.

Even if we don't land Horford, if those 3 improve this summer we will be a very dangerous team. Vonleh needs to find confidence in his shot and then he will be good to go.

I think his raw skills and feel for the game are better than Vonlehs to be quite honest

I know the kid has a ton of upside, but in the current mode we are currently in, I think we would be crazy to get rid of any of those 3 guys to get him. Vonleh is young and has tremendous upside himself. While plumlee, and Davis were instrumental in our growth this season. Good character guys who have the work ethic to improve physicaly and skillfully to better contribute more than they did this season.

Interesting. I think we should trade at least one - if not two - of those three guys.

Looking into it Maker's age is legit.

    That was my only qualm.

Fwiw -- Neil met with Maker yesterday.

Well this pretty much guarantees that they are looking to acquire a draft pick somewhere right? Why would they be meeting with prospects if they don't plan on being active draft day...

Gonna be a very interesting Off-season . I love how Neil keeps us on our toes, then breaks the pinata and scatters candy everywhere.

It depends on where Neil's target rises to ...or falls to.

Our assets are not appealing outside the core and Vonleh.

Do you give up Noah for a late lotto or mid-first? Acquiring picks is difficult these days.

Not that surprising that Olshey would use the draft to acquire a future big man. Free agency will be CRAZY this year and he may not be able to attract the players he needs yet. But the only problem is that we are already a playoff team, it's going to take a few years for these guys to become contributors...... look at Vonleh. Also if we can bring in a young big man, we should also bring in a a another coach. I wish Kaman would retire to his cave and put on a suit.....
