Agreed. And I mostly feel the same. (Full disclosure: I've had some Olshey hate for the last couple of years. But I'm over it. I'll always despise his personality, but I'm fully behind the team on the court--other than Evan Turner obviously!!!) It's just that every once in a while, after all these years, and all the long years between almost contending, I take that step back and have to wonder: "will it ever happen?!?"
I do the same, purgatory is just a word that implies no enjoyment.. nobody enjoys anything about "purgatory".
Exactly. People don't realize how much worse it could be. We could be back2back 9 seed Denver. Would that be better? Of course not. We could be the Kings who go to lottery every year and never get any better. We could be the Wolves who make the playoffs for first time in 14 years, lose in first round where the supposed superstar Towns refuses to demand the ball, and then their actual best player demands a trade. We could be the Thunder who are on the hook for half a billion dollars a year and can't even win a game against "purgatory" Portland. There are so many worse situations we could be in. Fuck, we have Damian Lillard. That alone is awesome. There are about 23 teams that don't have a single player as good as he is. Would you rather be one of THOSE teams?
I love basketball, and I am a huge Blazer homer, but Ive not seen anyone argue it couldnt be worse. The arguement is, it could be better, and could we compete with the squads who are better if NO / PA did different things? I agree the Blazers are still fun to watch, Dame is great on and off the court, but for those who really arent satisfied just being ‘good’ they’re likely not thinking about the teams who are in the same or worse positions they’re thinking about how to compete with the teams who are better or in a better position.
Good points. Some people do think we are horrible though. And some think we are in "purgatory." I'd say Denver & Sacramento are purgatory. We're a good 'HCA in West' team.
I struggle with it, yes the Blazers are good, but they also at times appear so far away from competing for a championship that it can be extremely frustrating. Im not a NO fan, and yes its a personality thing but he drives me crazy. Then his actual GM moves at times to me are very questionable too... The Blazers are still fun to watch, Dames going to be one of the best Blazers ever all said and done. I feel like NO hasnt given dame the best shot to win, but to be fair KD going to GS, CP3 going to Houston really kind of put those teams out of reach for a little while. Talent wise its going to be a struggle for anyone to match those teams. Honestly even if the Blazers lose to the Pelicans in 6 or 7 I think people (including myself) feel quite a bit different about the Blazers going into this year. Getting swept was humbling for the Players, coaches and the fans.
