Getting Moore would basically mean Hood is left to take whatever he wants in FA (would probably give Kanter the MLE if this happened), Simons could still get the Seth minutes in this scenario.
Yeah. Not a fan of this scenario. I don't see how that makes us better and also think it's a poor use of resources. Every move we make should be with the Warriors in mind. Giving Kanter the MLE (or resigning him all together) and getting even smaller on the wing is the exact opposite of that.
Blazers draft pick and Jake Layman for Taurean Prince? It was reported the Blazers where high on Prince last year at the trade deadline.
$126,000,152 is our payroll for next season. The HARD CAP is going to be ~138 million. We have a 5 million exception to work with, and realistically, it won't be able to be used on any of our 3 free agents. So that is losing 3 rotation players for nothing. If Aminu walks, that's 4 rotation players gone for nothing. If they resign Aminu for anything more than ~7 million a year they won't even be able to use the tax MLE. Cutting 10 million + getting a rotation player + opening up the full MLE (for our own free agents or even others) is a pretty good compromise for the 25th pick. Last thing the Blazers need right now is another project player.
We can use the tax MLE regardless. The "hard cap" only applies if we use the non-tax MLE, the BAE, or do a sign-and-trade. If we do none of those things, our salary can go well above the apron.
Beat me to the punch. B-Roy making me read up on the Coon's Cap FAQ...someday I'll dig into that monster.
Mainly because I dont think this draft class is all that special, Id be totally down for trading our pick if it could help the cap and get rid of ET. It seems like after the 1st two guys in this draft there is a massive natural talent / ability drop off.
Thanks for the link. Chuma & Bazley have been my two preferred targets for Portland. Granted, I don't know a whole lot about Bazley... he just was very intriguing as a second round pick. I was hoping to be able to do some more research on him, but haven't had a chance yet.
Bazley reminds a lot of Lamar Odom. If work out goes well he just might get up to 1st round. Due to there not clear pick for us at 25 olshey might take a flier on him. But we will see if he part of the Blazers workouts.
I want so badly for them to trade their pick w/ ET to get something even if it's just salary cap relief. I am really not a fan of this draft class...
We endured 3 yrs of ET's contract only to give up an asset when it's finally expiring? For one year of relief that we don't even really need (we aren't getting under the cap)? Unless this is part of larger deals to bring in stars, I don't see the point.
Agreed. Giving up assets to dump contracts only makes sense if you can get some value from dumping that contract--value that exceeds the asset you gave up. Currently, the only major thing dumping Turner's contract would do is potentially open up using the full MLE. I don't think the extra few million is worth punting on a first round pick. And regarding the quality of the draft, this is the worst kind of draft to dump a first round pick, IMO. The best draft to do that is one where there are a lot of clearly-defined good players in the top half of the draft, but you're selecting near the bottom of the round. This draft has two or three excellent prospects and then a great deal of uncertainty beyond them. This is the sort of draft where you could get a steal near the bottom of the first round because no one's really sure who the best NBA players in this draft will be outside of Zion, Morant and Barrett.
Their chance of winning next year is better if Stotts doesn't have the option of Playing ET. The draft has not very much in it, you could buy a 2nd rounder and probably get the same type of player. You could, in theory, bring back an ok player for ET and a Pick.
