Coincidentally, I was just having that discussion with a long-time season ticket holder. This is only a supposition based on a few contacts who are more in touch with mostly agents and a few front office people around the league. Not surprisingly, it seems pretty split. Some who really do very well with him and some that think he is soap opera 'slick'.

Is it possible to combine 'specific name' with 'salary cap'? Whomever they get, it will have salary cap implications and every name that is brought up is in tat category. Someone under the radar like a Kaminsky from Charlotte, Portis from Chicago, Ross from Orlando, Satoransky from Washington...someone like that who could contribute but is an ending contract.

I imagine other GMs and Agents like working with him unlike the local media.

I'm still on record with Kevin Love (not that I want it to be true).

How do people feel about the rumor (via Ramon Shelbourne) that the Pels rejected an offer from the Knicks with KP as the centerpiece? (in other words, Dallas was plan B)

If true, it would reinforce the idea that there are red flags around KP.

Hmm, Portis would be a great pickup. So would Ross. Satoransky would be a good Turner replacement. Kaminsky is a no thank you.

Yeah, if KP was threatening to take the Qualifying Offer in New York there was no chance he would've signed long term in New Orleans either. I don't blame them for not taking that chance. Plus guys like Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr, or Enes Kanter aren't exactly great to have to take back to make the money work either.

It's really too bad Chicago seems opposed to taking on money next year for picks.

I agree on Ross, could bring some punch off the bench. He could also play with Dame and CJ for spurts. Dame’s improved D makes it a little easier to pair him with players who are below average on D.

Yeah but theoretically we could get Portis without sending any money the other way. He’s gonna get a pretty nice contract this summer though.

Yeah, I just don't see the Bulls giving him up for what we'd be offering.

If that's true, then the low buy price on KP makes Love/Griffin even "cheaper" due to their contracts/age.
(Of course I'm just now learning that NYK gets two 1sts, which is quite significant.)

Maybe I got this wrong but it was to the Knicks he told he was going to sign the qualifying offer; so they would have lost him after a year. They had to trade him. And, I think he told them a long time ago he wanted to be traded; he never got over hearing that Jackson was trying to trade him.

Usually, that is just something stars threaten to do because they want a max. I think NY was trying to give him less or have some kind of opt out for injury concerns. He obviously didn't like that they didn't offer the full max extension last summer.

I think they thought he would really do it; and I also think he would have; just my gut feeling.

Could be and I wasnt trying to lead that into anything negative. Was just curious how people feel about him in a broader perspective.

Word. I'm sure Tpup isn't far off base. I'm in the people business and know generally different folks click, or rub each other the wrong way.

if it's Porzingas it's more like a thinner perspective

yeah, I know..."bad joke department, wizenheimer speaking"....don't hate me, I'm tired and my back hurts. Hey - at least it wasn't a spice or herb pun. Way too much fiber & roughage in that other thread

Portis is actually interesting. He could probably be had for a first. He's due for a contract, but he's a restricted free agent, so worst case scenario he signs the qualifying offer so we keep him for one more year at really cheap. We could possibly deflate his market since he would probably be coming off the bench for us. We will also need an Aminu replacement next year so if we can get him to sign a ~7-8 million / year contract he would fit right into the starting lineup next year.

He's not the same defender as Aminu, but pretty much better in every other aspect. Also shoots the 3 at a respectable rate.

The Knicks couldn't offer anyone near the shooting efficiency of Meyers Leonard.....so....
