Full disclosure, I have no idea what was said and my 'sauce' gave zero details other than there was contact. But in trying to figure out what that might be, Hayward has not worked out for them as planned and is a BIG salary at $31.2, 23.7 and 34.2 over the next 2 1/2 seasons.

It’s only been a year and a half since his injury, all bodies don’t heal at the same rate and certain minds take longer to trust their bodies again than others. If this is actually an option pull the trigger. It would be a great moment in Blazer history if the ex Jazz players all star form was restored while wearing a Portland uni.

I'd be ecstatic if Jaylen Brown were involved. A collins + pick for Brown trade would be tremendous.

Let's pretend Neil figured out a way to deal for both Love and Hayward at the deadline without sacrificing Dame, CJ, or Nurk, and the Cavs, Celts and Vulcans were all on board. Would you be interested in the big swing or opposed to the major cash outlay?

    Great question.

Hayward yes, Love no. Hayward has 2 years after this one and we won't be players in FA in those years as is. But Love's contract extends past Dame/CJ. I don't want to touch that.

So, you'd say no to this...

Amazing that this apparently makes all 3 teams worse.

    Por 1st to NO

    Dame/Curry
    CJ/Baldwin
    Hayward/Layman
    Mirotic/Chief
    Nurk/Collins

There’s not a lot of D in that starting unit but we lose 3 bad contracts and gain 1.

I'd say no to that. I don't want Love's contract on our books.

    Possible targets on Boston, imo:

    Hayward
    Marcus Morris
    Jaylen Brown
    Ojeleye

Brown would be the most difficult to get imo. Morris is an expiring. Ojeleye isn’t proven. Seems like Hayward is the most logical.

Yeah, they're not giving him up. He's going to be a fixture in SA for a decade.

They are so overloaded with guys who are bigger SG or SF type players. It would seem that at some point, something would have to give. The Pelicans might just wait for summer for what the Celtics have in terms of players/picks.

The Kyrie domino should determine a lot. If he wants to leave and they decide to cut bait next week, I think it makes it that much more likely that they try to rid themselves of the Hayward contract as well.

That trade yesterday is exactly why we should not attach picks to anybody to get rid of contracts this year. Having expiring contracts actually gives you opportunity to trade for players and acquire extra assets. You can get picks/young players with potential for taking on long term deals like Dallas did yesterday or you can just throw in some expirings along with your young players and picks and reach for a star. They are a very useful commodity.

Welp, the Thunder just opened up a roster spot and took a little bit off their tax number by trading TLC to the Bulls.

Normally that would be the case....but there are going to be SO MANY expiring contracts next season for the same reason Olshey overpaid for the 4 players he offered contracts to. (Crabbe gone). We went over that a bit in the podcast if you are interested.
