Now that I think about it I would probably take Saric over Mirotic. He’s younger and a better playmaker. His contract also lines up perfectly as it expires after next season, after which we’d still retain control as he’s restricted.

Realistically does either of them raise the ceiling for the Blazers this year?

Mirotic would. Quick mentioned in his Q&A yesterday that he thinks Portland must get out of the first round if Stotts and Olshey want to stick around. If that’s true, I think it’s a safe bet Olshey will do something at the deadline. For as much as he likes his guys, I can’t see him betting his job on guys like Meyers, Harkless, and Layman.

I think their ceiling is 2nd round with or without those two. I think they ‘could’ make it to the 2nd round without Saric or Mirotic. I dunno. Guess it depends what they end up having to give up.

The point is they improve their chances substantially with Mirotic, and probably Saric as well. Those guys have proven themselves on that stage. I’ve been sooooo team Layman, but if I’m Olshey, would I bet my job that he’s going to step up in the playoffs? Harkless? Meyers? Nope.

Id argue if its substantial, but thats semantics. I think they both could help in spots. I dunno, ultimately I guess at this point just do whatever to get out of the 1st round...

Mirotic is averaging 17 ppg in under 30 minutes. Who on our bench even comes close? We don’t have one reliable scorer on the second unit. That’s substantial.

    Taurean Prince - F - Hawks
Taurean Prince saw 33 minutes in the starting lineup against the Suns on Saturday, scoring nine points with one rebound, one assist, three steals and one 3-pointer.

It was a surprise to see him start, and this comes after ESPN's Zach Lowe said there wasn't "much traction" for a Prince trade. The minutes really jump out, but that's some Solomon Hill-like usage for a guy who carried the offense post-break last year.

Meh. I’d take him but he’s definitely not worth a first by himself.

He is playing more mpg than all but 3 guys on our roster. He would not get those minutes here if he came off the bench. Meaning his PPG would go down. He is also pretty bad defensively. An upgrade sure, a huge one, I dunno.

Why wouldn’t he get the same minutes? Rotations get shortened in the playoffs. Nurkic, Mirotic, and Aminu would gobble up all the front court minutes. Nurk and Aminu are good for 30. That leaves 36 minutes for Mirotic and Zach, but Aminu can also play SF if Mirotic is spacing at the four.

all these trade rumors, and as people have noted, it's a lot more one or two people speculating, and many others regurgitating that speculation, than anybody actually hearing something

so I'd ask people: does anybody really believe that Olshey is offering CJ or Nurkic or Collins or Simons? I sure don't

that leaves a late 1st round pick and players like Aminu, Harkless, and Meyers, and the latter two have almost no positive trade value. Aminu probably has some, as a player and an expiring contract, and there's the 1st, and maybe a future 1st too. But if those are the assets being dangled, what are the chances that any needle-mover will be headed to Portland?

Stotts has very, very rarely played Aminu at the 3. Nurkic will hopefully see more minutes in the playoffs. Would I like them to get Mirotic? Yeah. Just not sure how much of an upgrade he actually is.

....which is what he played most of his career before Portland. I think that is a 'miss' in Stotts' coaching tendencies.

I think it speaks way more to the way the NBA has gone over the course of Aminu's career than it does to Stotts. Nowadays, if you're a 3 that can't dribble well, you're a stretch 4. It's not a Stotts thing. It's an NBA thing. The more wing based the league gets, the more those guys are pushed to the 4. Prince has seen 1/3rd of his time at the 4 this season. I imagine it'd be more if his team had decent wings.

Look at guys like Barnes, MKG, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Kuzma even. All "3s" 10 years ago, but now new age 4s

It would be amazing if the Blazers got AD, Im kind of with you up giving uo both CJ and Nurk, but at the same time I probably wouldnt be that mad if they did

So I really like your idea for a trade to get AD. I actually think if we traded all three first rounders that are eligible to be traded, along with CJ, Zach and Simons... we would be offering more than anyone else and would be offering enough to get AD now. The frustrating thing is I think that NOLA does this but Olshey doesn't (he loves his guys and he loves his picks).
