Idk if this has been posted by holdahl and freeman had a segment on their latest podcast titled “things I’m hearing” re: workouts and training camp. - Tolliver is probably going to have a bigger role than people think and they went as far as to say he may even start if Gasol isn’t ready on opening night, with the idea that Collins backs up Whiteside. That’s probably a stretch but they did mention how Stotts likes his spacing and defense and that he’s a good fit alongside Dame, CJ, and Whiteside. Personally I like the idea of Simons playing alongside some vets on the second unit, Tolliver being one. - Holdahl said Trent’s looked “phenomenal” both in workouts and camp and compared his situation to Layman, as in he’ll be play better than people think if/when he gets an opportunity. - Blazers are “bullish” on their defense. They love the “length and athleticism” of Whiteside and the idea of him pairing up with Collins. They also love the versatility of Bazemore, who can guard three positions. - Players and staff want to get past the “underdog” mentality and start carrying themselves as a real good team. Part of the reason is they don’t want free agents, trade targets, etc looking at them as a team that overachieves, but rather a good team players want to play for. “We’re not a team that will catch you when you’re not looking. We want to be the team that when you come to our house you know you’re gonna have to play your best, because we are one of the best.” A maturation of sorts; the next phase. - Holdahl said Skal is another guy that’s played very well in workouts/camp.
