    Even more so when that players name is Damian Lillard. If you lose the game with Dame taking a shot it's not a bad loss.

    Durant will be better than Sharpe for a few more years. Sharpe will be better for 15 years after that.

    I can understand giving Dame the benefit of the doubt, but what is he doing with Simons? Why did Simons get 20 shots and Sharpe only 9 (and fewer minutes) when Sharpe was playing better? Why was Simons out there on a play where the team desperately needed a defensive stop?

    The question is starting to get asked. Long season. Maybe Chauncey is right in sticking with his starting unit for the time being?
    I sure would like to be in on the coaches meeting this morning.

    Nurk misses two bunnies for 4 points. Turns the ball over for an uncontested 3 and misses 2 free throws during an 8 minute stretch that the Blazers sorely needed a basket but of course the rest of the team isn’t good enough to play with Nurk.

    Did Ben Simmons have his first solid game in 3 years? Against us?

    A. Should have shot more free throws. B. Was integral to stops we got at the rim down the stretch. C. Would have sealed the win with a rebound if he was left in. D. We had a chance because of his and 1.

    Can't argue with any of that. Just the statement that the rest of the team is holding him back seems a bit nefarious?

    Offense lost this game, imho. As much fun as this team is at defense, their offense is a bit clunky. The NBA had the 2016 Blazers Warriors game where Dame went off for 51 points on youtube yesterday and I watched part of it. Say what you want about that team, their offense with multiple weaves to open people were beautiful - they were not bogged down on offense as the current team can get.

    is nurk more to blame cause he fucked up in the 4th quarter, than other players who fucked up throughout the match

    if nurk fucked up, but the rest of the team played well, then yes, you could rightfully put blame on nurk, but if all of them (except sharpe) fucked up, theres no point in putting blame on nurk just cause he did it late in the game

    nurk gets so much blame/hate cause he misses easy shots and thats all people see, they dont see defense, rebounding, assists, screens, all good things he does, cause people are so focused on those misses, its crazy

    Sometimes the bad guys win.

    If the bad guys always lost, they wouldn't be bad guys, they'd be losers.

    You just changed your tune. Not at all what you implied in the other post at all.

    Portland does give up the 4th highest rate of corner three's in the league at 26% of opponent attempts....

    BUT, Blazers rank 6th in the NBA is opponent corner 3 conversion rate at 34.6%. That's actually lower than their overall opponent conversion rate of 35.2% (which ranks 13th). I'm not going to go deep-stats-digging on this but it looks like the Blazers are one of only 6 teams that hold opponents to a lower corner three percentage than overall three percentage. So, perception might not be reality, at least not till Watanabe
    ******************************************************************************************************************

    it's interesting looking at where the Blazers rank in opponent conversion rates from the shooting zones; outside-->in:

    3pt - 13th
    16'-->3pt - 3rd
    10-->16' - 2nd
    3-->10' - 5th
    0-->3' - 23rd

    that sure seems to show that Portland's biggest defensive weakness is at the rim, by far. That's even more compelling when you factor in that the Blazers give up the 3rd highest rate of at-the-rim shots in the league at 25.7%. So then, opponents are getting to the basket at an alarming rate and when they get there, they are converting at a high rate. Portland is also 27th in blocks

    in any event, I'd say Portland's defensive weakness isn't corner three's, it's their rim protection defense.

    I'm not sure why....probably a lot of factors. Allowing too much penetration; overuse of the zone defense; lack of length: some poor rotations. Another factor: Nurkic is a decent interior defender but he's not a strong rim protector. Eubanks actually has a higher blocked shot rate than Nurkic. Nurkic has a better defensive rating but Eubanks has a better DBPM. Obviously, rotations are part of this, but the questions about Portland's big man rotation aren't going away
    *************************************************************************************************************

    one last thing: in the see-I-told-you-it-could-be-done department: As expected, Dame & Ant are last on the team in defensive rating and DBPM. Yet, Portland is 7th in the league in defense. The back court is a defensive weakness, but it doesn't have to consign the Blazers to the bottom 3 in defense

    Sort of inexcusable for Billups to have Ant in on a defensive possession. He immediately got burned and O’Neal tipped it in. Horrible decision by Chauncey. Cost us the game.

    Also not the first time he leaves Ant and Dame in together on big defensive possessions. He needs to learn that when it’s a defense only posession after a timeout, you put your best defenders in, not your starters.

    But, he's not doing those things consistently and he is killing us out there because he's slow and he can't make a shot or free throw.

    I'd rather have Eubanks out there.
