Actually, based on what you’re saying, he should shoot more threes. If he sucks at 2s why take so many of them? Makes more sense to shoot more or all of his shots from the arc. They’re worth more and take less of a toll on his body. He broke his leg on a dunk.

no, that's not correct. To start with, I have a real hard time believing he'll finish the season shooting over 40% on three's. If he does, maybe the equation would change. The other factor is how him spending more time around the 3 point line will affect the other parts of his game. Currently, he has the lowest offensive rebound rate of his career, and those rebounds have value to the team, and him. He currently has his lowest assist rate since 2017; hanging around the arc waiting for a spot-up opportunity means he spends less time acting as a hub in the offense

but mainly, my 'trade lower pt% for higher 2pt%' was sarcasm. He wouldn't really have to make that trade. He could simply focus and be more patient around the rim. Something he's needed to do since he arrived in the NBA. His 2pt% needs a lot of improvement even though he has improved over the last 2 seasons. He's next to last among bigs

    2 point FG% ranking:

    Nic Claxton .747
    Aaron Gordon .680
    Rudy Gobert .675
    Nikola Jokić .672
    Brandon Clarke .665
    Jakob Poeltl .657
    Bol Bol .647
    Domantas Sabonis .639
    Clint Capela .636
    Jarrett Allen .631
    Deandre Ayton .630
    Christian Wood .627
    Ivica Zubac .625
    Myles Turner .622
    Mason Plumlee .621
    Anthony Davis .618
    Karl-Anthony Towns .618
    John Collins .617
    Brook Lopez .614
    Lauri Markkanen .603
    Evan Mobley .599
    Kelly Olynyk .587
    Alperen Şengün .582
    Bobby Portis .578
    Nikola Vučević .576
    Joel Embiid .563
    Julius Randle .562
    Jonas Valančiūnas .561
    Jusuf Nurkić .558
    Bam Adebayo .544

pretty hard to justify that low a conversion rate

the good news is he has posted a good FT rate even though he's at a career long for shot distance. That has generated the best TS% of his career. My point being that if he could just climb over the 60% mark on two's he'd be one of the most efficient C's on offense
