he said in his PC after the game that they were thinking about it for a few calls. they apparently have a monitor behind the bench and he didn't "feel great" about using the challenges for any of them after review.

 

LA was one of the best first quarter scorers in the league though.

 

There's 2 guys with iPads on the bench. Every team has that. They look at their video coordinator and they give a thumbs up or not on whether to challenge. Obviously didn't get the thumbs up.

 

I would not have taken Hart out of the game at the end. You need his grit in this kind of game. I thought Keon looked fantastic. Odd man out was Sharpe, who didn't earn crunch time minutes based on his earlier performance. IMO playing Sharpe in this game would have likely done more harm to his psyche than any potential benefit to his development. And Keon was playing much better. Sharpe will get his chances.

 

that's fine, but i just don't see the point of never using one. if you have a timeout to spare and there is a maybe 50-50 call in the last minute of a game, use it in lieu of the timeout. maybe you get lucky.

he used it perfectly in the Laker game. lucked out of his use of it in the Phoenix game. Coulda used one at least during the charge calls in the fourth. Happens.

I think he's learning.

 

Hart needs to shoot. He passes up so many open looks, it's frustrating.

 

My take as well.

 

I agree Hart passed up a few opportunities to put up a mid range shot. He can make those. The good news is Hart is fully embracing his role and he doesn't want to take shots away from better scorers. Guys like that are hard to find.

 

Sharpe shot 16.7% for the game...he was our worst shooter...Hart shot 33%

 

My questions is why is it that other teams run the pick and roll and the roll guys seems to get multiple wide open trip dunks a game. Is it just how the Blazers play and the person who is suppose to be covering late? to small? It just doesn't seem like the Blazers get as many of these opportunities with their high pick and roll as other teams do against our defense

 

Because Nurk doesn't dunk. He tries to sashay to the rim and finger roll the ball.

 

well this is frustrating.

3 incorrect calls/no calls in the final 2 minutes. all with portland being disadvantaged.

Are goal tends now a subjective judgment call? Somebody mentioned that they heard that during the game from one of our game announcers. That would be stupid.

 

I am ok with the incorrect non-calls because maybe they just didn't see it. But it pisses me off when they blow the whistle at the end of a game on something that never happened. How many times during a game do players travel and there is no call? Yet they blow the whistle on Grant with 1:16 left when he doesn't even travel? I was pissed last night and now I am pissed all over again.

 

So that's at least 2 travels Grant got that were BS

 

definitely annoying, but these things usually balance out by season's end.

 

Maybe refs are just really bad these days at figuring out what is a travel.
