Look, I was beaten by a drunk of a father as a kid for YEARS! You being worried about harsh words and how it affects/effects people just doesn’t register with somebody who got hit with a poker from the fireplace because he forgot to take out the trash. I WISH my dad had just yelled at me and called me horrible names.
VIOLENCE IS ONLY OK IN THE CASE OF SELF DEFENSE!

Damn dude, that is awful! I'm so sorry you (or any kid) had to go through that.

I'm worried about harsh words because I have seen it destroy kids that are not considered "normal." Kids that have various syndromes. Kids that have disabilities. Kids that are a little nerdy. And I see how devastated they are when other kids call them monsters. Or call they losers. Or tell them they are pieces of shit or are ugly. Words can have lifelong effects on these kids. And sometimes the only thing that stops a bully is a kid one day sticking up for himself and socking this kid as hard as they can to let them know they aren't to be messed with. It might be easy for some folks to let words go and have them have no affect on you. For some of these kids that's all they hear from people. So much so they join in when they get an opportunity to make fun of someone else. I've seen parents of bully kids join in and start making fun of these kids too. You can bet your ass i'll get in that adults face when I see that.

Violence doesn't always have to be the first option. Maybe not even the second or third.

But people need to stop making fun of others for their appearance, medical conditions, disabilities. It is fucked up. And sometimes those people deserve to be smacked.

An adult hitting a kid is never ok. Sorry to hear your story @THE HCP.

Just that violence isn’t the cure or answer to that problem. Never.

Saying what Chris did is a classless joke bothers me. Sorry, but joking about someones appearance from a medical condition is never funny. Disguising something like that as a joke just makes someone a shitty person. I've seen parents defend their bully kids from verbal abuse on other kids in the guise of a joke. I hope the smack from Will Smith has other people thinking twice about playing off a shitty thing to say as a joke about someone with a medical condition.

Disagree respectfully. Again. I've seen bully kids not change their behavior until the kid being bullied socks them in the face.

A classless joke is different from a joke. That's not a compliment for fucks sake. How else do you want me to describe it? Distasteful, mean, hurtful? Tell me the adjective that suits you. It was one, intended-light-hearted joke amongst a series of other jokes. It's not like Chris went up there and starting savagely shaming her on purpose with a minute long rant. What Will Smith did was ridiculous. Quit bringing up scenarios that have nothing to do with last night, such as bullying children.

What I think makes a shitty person is people that defend and justify that type of violence.

I can talk about anything I want to. I'm sharing my experiences that I have seen with my own eyes. There is no room for "jokes" that make fun of medical conditions of any kind. If you don't think kids or adults seeing someone make fun of someone else that has a medical condition, disability, is a different race etc. empowers bad behavior that makes them think it is ok for them.to do it, i don't know what to tell you.

There is no room for a classless joke. Joke. Or ribbing when it comes to medical conditions.

Did you not once again try to explain it off as a joke that was intended as a light hearted joke? Sure seems like you're trying to justify it because he didn't savagely go on and on about it.

There is no room for any of that in regards to medical conditions.

It was intended as a light-hearted-joke. I don't know what to tell you, I didn't say I liked it, which is what the sentence I quoted seems to imply. Why you can't separate the comment from the over-reaction (assault) is a mystery I will never solve.

Lol... seriously dude? Jokes on a message board are the same as walking on stage and assaulting someone? Okay!
