Wow Plus all his movies have been cancelled one after the next. Dude messed his career up. Now, he is in a celebrity rehab/retreat. I hope he is there for the right reasons and not just to save face.

Really? That's severe?!? Severe would be to take his Oscar away. Severe would be to have criminal charges filed against him. Severe is NOT allowing him to go and sit in the audience and get on TV for the next 10 years.
I would say it's more infamous than stained. If he were to put the actual Oscar trophy up for sale on eBay, I bet its infamy would have it sell higher than any other Oscar in history.
Taking away his Oscar would be severe, but I think it would be going too far. He does deserve criminal charges but Chris Rock isn't pressing charges. Will Smith shouldn't be allowed on TV for 10 years? I think, for an actor. Not being allowed to the "main event" for their industry, for the next 10 years, would be quite an ego deflating penalty.
Sometimes you need to make split decisions and in the case of my wife I had to make that split decision on behalf of my wife. She was being denigrated to her pretty face because she's Asian. To make such s split second decision their needs to be a preponderance of evidence such as overwhelming denigration else leave it alone.
