Watch the facial expressions. Does Rock look even a little hurt, frightened, or even surprised? And as Smith turns away, why does it look like he is trying hard not to laugh? Is Vegas taking bets on whether this was staged? I know which way I'm betting.
Nah, Rock was shook. He couldn’t even read the teleprompter after. That shit happened and he was in shock.
I really don't understand why you guys think this was staged. Why the hell would Will Smith do that on the night that he got his first Oscar? The guy has been trying to get an Oscar for DECADES. Now they're talking about taking it away from him. You guys are crazy.
I don't think it was staged. That was a real slap, and a real reaction. Chris Rock handled it incredibly well. Very impressive. No way Will Smith or anybody in his camp would agree to this.
Chris Rock kept his professional composure, even made a joke immediately afterwards. "Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me" In my opinion. Chris Rock probably didn't understand at the time that he may have taken anything too far. As a comedian, roasting people is literally one of his jobs. As a person with NVLD, Chris Rock lacks certain social abilities that other people have "built in" by design. Missing social cues is something a person "on the spectrum" can easily do. Just my two cents. And not trying to speak for Chris Rock, as I don't know the level of his social impairment. Here is a video of Chris Rock on his NVLD (Nonverbal Learning Disorder)
Jada Pinkett Smith Declared ‘I Don’t Give Two Craps What People Feel About This Bald Head of Mine’ Before Oscars "So I had to learn to get the courage to go, nah I’m not doing it, which is why I feel the freedom today, I don’t give two craps what people feel about this bald head of mine. Cuz guess what? I love it.” The clip is already making the rounds on social media, with one observer commenting, “Sooooo, did Will not know Jada didn’t care what anyone thought of her shaved head?? I am confused.” Will Smith first appeared to laugh at his wife’s expense before making the decision to storm the stage when his wife clearly felt differently.
My mom got cancer when I was in the 7th grade. The chemo took her hair. Everyday she would put on a wig that she absolutely hated, it was hot, scratchy, a pain in the ass to style, but she put it on and went to work. Then when she came out of remission 2 years later and the chemo again made her lose her hair she said fuck it and decided no wig this time. Saying something very similar to what Jada did. And the first time she went to work without her wig, a co-worker, just joking around, said she looked Mr Clean. She totally lost it and burst into tears. When someone is going through something like that they may tell themselves and others that they're not going to be hurt or offended by someone saying something but that doesn't mean when they actually are insulted, even when someone is joking, it doesn't hurt like hell.
Did your dad assault the co-worker? I'm not trying to minimize how Jada felt and I can't read her mind. Just posting what she said. It was a classless joke that to me seems rather tame compared to some I've heard on award shows, but it didn't need to be said and it clearly hurt her more than Chris Rock thought it would.
