Why would Joe comment that the three Rookies are not your average NBA rooks but ready to win now, rooks? I thought he was a gm type that would hold his cards close to his chest especially when it comes to the scrutiny he will get. He must have really believed it or bought into someone else evaluation.
IMO, this narrative is complaining just for the sake of complaining. Maybe 1% of GMs or coaches or team presidents is going to come out and say the guys they are putting on the floor for significant minutes are three years away even when most people knew it. They're still trying to sell tickets and generate excitement. And no one thought Rupert was going to be ready to contribute this year; I know Cronin said they had him as lottery value, but I didn't think they said he was ready to win now. It just gets old continuing to see people quote this as a criticism of Cronin. There are so many things he legitimately could be criticized over. But saying Scoot and Murray were plug and play is a sign of a bad GM? That's like tell me you just want to crush the guy without saying directly you want to crush the guy. It's a molehill.
geez louise....where did I say that because Scoot and Murray were plug and play made him a bad gm? I didn't. I simply said I thought he would be the type to hold his cards close to his chest. It's apparent they are more like most rookies that are talented enough to be drafted but still have to find their way, and see if their talents translate to the NBA.
Apologies. The gist of my response wasn't meant to be directed entirely at you. It's more about the general idea that pervades this board and other social media that Cronin being positive about our draft immediately after our draft is some kind of indictment on him when every other organization is saying the same thing about its picks. You just happened to touch on that narrative and it was an opportunity for me to sound off about the topic. What Cronin said is pretty much a nothingburger and should be approached as such unless other coaches and execs are saying different things about their young players or someone can prove Cronin actually believed something wildly out of line with scouts across the league. TBF, I don't think many people expected Scoot to be this bad. I don't think anyone reasonable figured he's be much above average as a rookie, but he's not even close to average at this point.
We draft that big Alex Len wannabe, I’ll personally buy @Mediocre Man his jersey…..and get it autographed.
