Why? Feels like we have plenty of depth. Shouldn't we be the ones trying to consolidate?

Unless we're confident we can get our guy at #11 and we're going to trade #24 for a future pick, I don't see this movie making sense.

When has Cronin traded FOR picks - he trades picks for players so if he did this would be a first for him outside of Dame of course.

    I see Coward as a 2/3 while Bryant is a 3/4.

The Portland Trail Blazers are currently restricted in their ability to trade first-round draft picks due to a lottery-protected pick owed to the Chicago Bulls. This obligation, stemming from a 2021 trade, is in place until 2028, and the Stepien Rule prevents the Blazers from trading away any first-round picks that could potentially go to the Bulls during that period.
    Here's a more detailed explanation:
    • The Obligation:
The Blazers owe the Bulls a lottery-protected first-round pick. This means the Blazers keep the pick if they make the playoffs and the pick falls outside the lottery (top 14). If they don't make the playoffs or the pick is in the lottery, the pick goes to the Bulls.
    • The Stepien Rule:
This rule in the NBA prohibits teams from trading away their first-round picks in consecutive future drafts. Because the Blazers have this outstanding obligation to the Bulls, it limits their ability to trade future first-round picks, as it could potentially leave them without a first-round pick in consecutive years.
    • Implications:
This restriction makes it more challenging for the Blazers to make significant trades for established players, as they can't offer as many future first-round picks as other teams.

I still say this was Neil’s biggest blunder. Completely tied our hands until this trade is consummated

Blazers are free to trade away first round picks in all of 2029, 2030, 2032. Plus of course this years #11.

I think being able to trade away 4 first round picks is plenty. Do you think the Blazers would have a need to trade away FIVE first round picks?

Blazers can additionally trade away the 2028 pick - its just conditional on us making the playoffs next season so the Bulls get the 2026 pick. If we're trying to target a star with a boatload of picks would seem pretty damn likely we make the 2026 playoffs though. So that would be up to 5 first round picks the Blazers can trade away - with 4 being guaranteed to convey.

Thats not to mention swaps the Blazers could send out. We'd have unprotected swaps available to send out in 2027+2031. Our 2029 pick already has two swaps built in. Our 2028+2030 picks each have a swap built in. So those can be consider as basically effectively 3 "super" unprotected first rounders. Or First rounders that include 1-2 built in swaps.

Now I get that its comical the Neil 2021 trade to acquire a backup in Nance is still potentially impacting our pick until 2028 (and thus stipen impact in 2029). However the current inventory of Blazers draft assets just makes the restrictions rather meaningless in practicality. We have TONS of first round draft equity available to send out in trades. In particular our draft assets will be the #1 item the Bucks look for in a Giannis trade regardless of the trading partner or destination.

I'll still stick with my hope that the pick isn't traded for a mid tier "win now" player, Portland can get one of Essengue/Jaku/Demin (in that order) at #11 and trade for Fleming.

Also, for while, I wasn't sure how to pinpoint VJ Edgecombe and now, I want to say he reminds me of Derek Anderson. A little more dynamic and explosive - of which, DA was quite agile and a strong dunker for his size

Changed my mind on my draft pick.

    Cedric Coward, SF, Washington State/Duke
    Junior | TS%: 71.0

    Height without shoes: 6-5¼ | Weight: 213
    Standing reach: 8-10 | Wingspan: 7-2¼

Coward has seen his stock explode over the past month as teams have gotten a closer look at his impressive physical tools, perimeter shooting and defensive potential, creating a better understanding of his late-blooming trajectory.

Can't remember but I think ESPN had us taking Carter Bryant in one of the last mocks. It's now back to Jakucionis.

It was ESPN. They had Bryant for a few hours it seemed. Maybe the Holiday trade changed things. Though they have the Suns taking Bryant ahead of us, so maybe it was the Suns that made their projections change. Man, I love me some draft day!

Cracks me up seeing Deni mentioned in so many trades. Of course they want him borderline all star that is underpaid. Who wouldn’t want that contract and player. But they think because we have been lottery team for so long we don’t want to good players.
