can't really go by the 48 three's he shot in 45 games:

    upload_2025-6-26_10-28-34.png

basically the FIBA and NCAA three point line. So, he can shoot from outside, just not very well. And that release of his is really slow and not much elevation on his jump shot. He's gonna get blocked a lot

as I said in another post, he's slow-footed like Clingan/Edey/Nurkic/Lopez/Zubac. That doesn't mean he can't be effective but he sure isn't mobile enough to switch the perimeter and defend dribble-drives that start on the perimeter

MMMBop’s footwork in the low post should make everyone happy enough to give hiMMMBop a chance

Those were some legitimate up and unders, spins and counters against Aussies.

Well there has to be something to the fact that I have read multiple times from multiple sources that Joe Cronin is usually the smartest guy in the room. Also that Mike is a world class talent evaluator.
Let’s hope this does pan out well.

On a team that won 27 games and had injuries to Dame, traded CJ, integrated Hart etc... on the roster during a tanking season

Not sure what any of this has anything to do with Scoot which is a part of the future and needs to earn his play time

I'd like to forget CJ Elleby. Bad bad year. The only season I can think of worse was probably the year we had Viktor Khryapa, Victor Claver, and Joel Freeland. Though we won one more game that year than CJs year. Felt worse though.

Yeah, the extra distance at the top of the key will take a while to get used to. He might have to start out from the corners.

And there is no doubt his 3-point release is slow. But I doubt he will get it blocked. More than likely, if someone is on him or running at him, he just won't shoot it. But we see all the time where the centers are left wide open from that distance.

that one workout video showed him shooting mid-range with the same slow release and no elevation on his jump shots. He was leaning forward too

I'm trying to remember if Tiago Spliltter had a jump shot...?

Drafted in 2007 and as an old 23 year old - was a very different NBA two decades ago.

The video from the Miami fan mentioned the Marc Gasol comparison. Marc eventually had a quicker release as he got older, but I don't recall any jump shot. Just a step back.

The Joker has a high release, so that helps him, but not a quick release (until the shot clock is almost out and he quickly throws it up ...and in. But he never jumps.

Yang will have to adapt, but he just turned 20, so I am not too worried about his offense. I am more curious/concerned about his foot speed on D.

A Grant Williams / Josh Green package + those seconds for Ayton sounds great to me!

Yes, the draftroom had a mostly positive take after the draft:
No.16 might seem high for Yang Hansen, who most people in the business mocked in the late first or early second round but I think it’s fair value for him. He was one of the big risers from the NBA draft combine (as I wrote about here) and at the time I started mocking him in the mid twenties and at one point had him mocked as high as no.18. After watching him at the combine it was clear he has a special feel for the game and actually moves pretty well for his size. He’s still a teenager and will continue to get stronger and a bit more mobile as he develops and his already advanced ball skills will only increase.

There are concerns about his ability to guard at the NBA level but Portland has a really good defensive team to put around him including a handful of really strong defensive wings, which should help cover for any shortcomings he may have.

In trading back from 11 to 16 Portland gained a 2028 unprotected first round pick, which comes from the Magic, a nice haul. But they also passed on players like Cedric Coward, Noa Essengue, Derik Queen and Carter Bryant. Will Yang Hansen prove to be worth the investment or will one of those players they could have had go on to be a star and make them regret the move?

It’s going to be really interesting to see how Henson’s career unfolds in Portland and how the rest of these guys careers play out.

One thing’s for sure: the Blazers made a bold move last night and took a swing on a guy they believe in. You’ve got to love the courage it took to make that pick.

I think Gasol ended up shooting threes in his last Memphis years/Toronto/etc.

But a lot of those guys in decades prior would've shot threes earlier if they had came into the current NBA. Threes weren't a part of the game then like they are now.

What a glorious time he had as a teenager for the Blazers. Almost lasted 24 hours.
