You JUST called the team Trader Bob assembled a:

    "Shit show"

Then in the same breath said I was supposed to:

    "give him his due"

    Yeah.... No...

I'm confused. "Shit Show" is bad, but "is the Shit" is good? I miss the days where shit was only bad.

Yeah...in the context of the era, some of our bone heads stood out...yeah, the Jail Blazers were bad PR, but consider two things.

Our bone heads were just ahead of the curve compared to todays NBA, most of the stuff we found outrageous then would hardly tick the meter now,

    And..they were fun to watch

Oh, and they went deep in the playoffs

That was just another one of his blunders. The Detlef thing was a big deal.

Does anyone else remember it that way? I don't recall Detlef being a problem...just not as good as earlier in his career.

That's exactly how I remember it. As I recall it, they agreed to let the Schrempf chill in Seattle until the end of the season, then threw him into the rotation in time for the playoffs. Fucked everything all up. Team lost every bit of chemistry and flow it had.

Detlef 's presence screwed the whole rotation and yes players were pissed about it. Cheeks wasn't able to give roster input and was FORCED to play players like Cocaine Kemp. Detlef didn't even have to go to practice.

Honestly, the only thing stopping him from playing right now is defense. He could start off as a good shooter off the bench. If he can defend he should get minutes his rookie year.

His 3pt shot is likely to be just as good as Napiers. From what I've seen of him, I don't know what Napier could do that Simons couldn't.

Simons mid-range pull-up might be better than CJ's. It's so quick and he gets so much lift with the shot still having a smooth release...

He had the handles and quickness to get to the rim. He'll get bumped off his spot though until he can add strength.

Er, did Detlef's last year (2000-2001) coincide with Cheeks' first year (2001-2002) in some way I'm not remembering? Detlef played 2 years in Portland at the peak of Trader Bob's volatile experiment. Was it only Detlef's retirement tour last year that he didn't have to go to practice? That timeline isn't making much sense.

Rod was drunk then...his alcoholism battled him his whole life..he got in trouble with it in Russia when he coached there...to get in trouble for drinking in Russia you have to be wasted...his first stint here was a thing of beauty though

Neither Dunleavy nor Cheeks had could give roster input. Bob sucked for both coaches.

So? What does that have to do with bringing his lazy redundant ass here?

Detlef was not a good Trail Blazer. Fuck him.

Watching that UAA Highlights video from earlier in this thread again. Simons definitely has a ton of CJ in his game. There were plenty of times in that video where he could have taken it to the hoop and dunked it. Instead he pulls back and then quickly swishes a classic CJ pull up. That shows a maturity to his game because most 18 year olds would be dunking it all day against those kids.

Edit: And I would not be surprised to see him grow to a solid 6'5" shooting guard in the next couple of years.

Imagine if he grew another 2 inches. At 6'6, he could maybe play SF, and he'd be a star

And this year's draft thread would instantly become lore of Sportstwo with everyone screaming at NO to draft a SF haha
