I’ll start giving a shit when he proves he was worth our selection. I was the same way with Collins last year, he grew on me and I WAS WRONG ABOUT HIM (there you go @BonesJones ). Swanigan hasn’t done shit either and until he does, he isn’t shit.
Naw, Bob would have shaken up the shit show roster and pick up talent to push to make an advance, not just bake the crap cake
He wasn't the #9 high school prospect in 2018 for no reason... he's athletic and skilled and unselfish. Rolling the dice on a guy who might be a difference-maker late in the first round makes a lot more sense than trying to fill a gap in the roster. The Blazers should be able to give him time to develop and see if he can step in a year or two. I'm not sure it's a great pick, but anyone who thinks there is a great pick at #24 is usually thinking wrong.
I don't think Bazz wants to spend this point in his career playing spot minutes behind Dame and CJ..he can get more burn on a lottery team and a bigger paycheck
With trades. He probably would have taken Simons at 24 as well. Yall act like trades aren't a thing and we can't/won't make one before the start of next season.
Well to each his own...I wouldn't enjoy that sort of pessimism going into next season myself but hey...not everyone will enjoy the process
That's not how he got his reputation. Whitsitt's strength was wheeling and dealing, mainly in trades other than on draft day. (He liked to obtain a 1st-round pick in a trade, then use it to grease a later trade, instead of saving it for the draft.) He isn't as well-known for his drafts (but he wasn't bad, cough, Shawn Kemp).
We have good pt guard vets to mentor him...that's what is a difference maker and our leaders give a shit about their teammates ..a rare thing in sports
I know all about him. He was also known for taking flyers on young hit or miss projects in the draft. We can still make trades after today.
Had he gone to college, Simons would likely have been one of the first PGs chosen in next year's draft. I doubt there was a single player on the board at 24 who would have been a difference maker for the Blazers next season As far as I'm concerned, the 24th pick was next to worthless in terms of immediate impact. What the Blazers did was grab a free future lottery PG. I understand the frustration with our situation, but not the angst over this pick. As a long time and long term fan, I like this pick 100 times more than I liked the Swanigan pick last year.
I respect you but I really don’t understand you man... it’s like you only care about being good enough to make the playoffs. After last seasons utter failure we all should be very vocal and negative. That’s the only way change happens.
It better be someone who's better than CJ, and able to take up the slack that a high school kid is going to need.
He wasn't my first choice, but given what was available at 24, I like him better at 24 than I do Trae Young in the top 10. Simons could end up being a lottery level talent. Just more risk associated with him.
I've been a fan forever and change happens anyway...constructive criticism is healthy...blatant pessimism is not interesting to me....there's plenty of that fuel around the forum..not my thing. Given the current NBA culture....I'd be thrilled to get to the WCF ….I'm realistic about not winning a championship next season but after that...I'm hoping we'll have a core identity..there's been a lot of roster changes since we had a core identity with Lamarcus, Wes, Nico, Dame and Rolo….we're not that solid yet but Nurk gave me some hope....we need scoring, speed and vets to make the next step. I don't see a lot to bitch about myself...we're a work in progress until we're not
