MM, while I don't agree with your philosophy, I understand where you are coming from. But where you lost me is when you say how: I don't want them to lose. The question was should we still be tanking. My response is yes. So you think they should be tanking, but you don't want them to lose. Is there a way to win and tank?
I think it's like "Since I'm not GM, I want them to win. If I were GM, I'd want them to tank." No wonder he's so depressed: the Blazers are winning, which just reinforces his lack of control over events.
I think if we won a title some fans would still say we only got lucky and followed a poor unsustainable roster building strategy.
The thing is if before the season if you asked all the vocal pro-tanker advocates what are the chances we start off with a 12-2 record they would've said no chance in hell! So now they say there is no chance in hell we can win a title building a roster this way? Perhaps we should let them keep telling us daily how everything this team is doing will NOT win a title. "For the fans who do whatever it takes"
Trading away everyone, giving up on winning, and merely landing a Parker or Wiggins who MIGHT be able to lead his team to a winning playoff series in 5 years, doesn't sound like the way to go to me. It would take years if ever to build around one of these kids. We have Lillard now and have put good pieces around him. Why should we take the step back. Looks like MM won't admit he was wrong unless we win the championship. I wonder who will win a playoff series first. Parker, Wiggins, or these current Blazers?
Yep That's bullshit. Did you pick us to start 12-2? If no, then you don't know what the playoffs will bring. The playoffs will be difficult for EVERY TEAM tha makes it in the West. It will be brutal. There will be no gimmees in the first round. We have just as good a chance as anyone. Aldridge and Batum have been there and want to win this time. Wes has been there with two teams. Mo has been to ECF. We have as good a chance to play well in the playoffs as another team does.
The thought that Wiggins or Parker or any other totally unproven college player is worth purposefully tanking after a 12-2 start is just idiotic.
Speaking or ranking and Chicago. I found this gem of a power ranking before the season started outta Chicago, by Sam Smith: Eastern Conference ranking: #1. Bulls. Record last season: 45-37. Lost in second round of playoffs to Heat. Key additions: Derrick Rose, Mike Dunleavy. This is the regular season. This has nothing to do with championships, though the Bulls got one with an 8-0 preseason. Though the last time they did that in a full season in 1992 they did win a title, but didn’t have the conference’s best record. Rose is back after a 45-37 season without him and looks as good as ever. Health is said to be a concern, but it is for everyone. So forget it. If LeBron or Durant or Chris Paul is hurt, forget those teams. The Bulls have All-Stars in Joakim Noah and Luol Deng, a further invigorated and slimmer Carlos Boozer and a core that’s been together, if not always on the court, almost four years. Though Noah and Kirk Hinrich were out injured in preseason, both have practiced this past weekend and appear ready to go for Tuesday’s anticipated opener in Miami. They sense it’s a sort of now or never time. Western Conference Ranking: #10. Trail Blazers. Record last season: 33-49. Missed playoffs. Key additions: Robin Lopez, Mo Williams, Dorell Wright, C.J. McCollum. Perhaps another season saying they should be a playoff team, which may finally push LaMarcus Aldridge out. But probably not at least until trade deadline or more likely after the season. They’ve got some real talent in Damian Lillard with Nicholas Batum. But if they think Robin Lopez is the answer to their decades long center problems, they better get used to seeing someone move like Greg Oden after surgery.
I don't understand how some of you can't grasp the concept of disagreeing with the direction of the team, but still Wanting them to win. If they were trying to rebuild, I'd root for the best draft pick. Why is that so hard to understand?
Yes he does. He thinks there are many players in the coming draft that will be better than any player we currently have. And that all of those players will each lead their team to a championship, something our current team is forever incapable of doing.
