<div class="quote_poster">Quoting go_duke21:</div><div class="quote_post">So Giddens is supposed to lay in a fast break layup instead of taking it strong and dunking it? I was taught to take it strong to the rim and if you have the ability to dunk it, throw it down. In my opinion it is not a big deal at all to dunk, especially in a game like that where a big dunk can get the fans going, or quiet them if you aren't at home, and it can also demoralize the other team.

I can understand you being mad about this if Bill Self and Kansas are beating a lowly D1 team by 40 but in a big game like the one against MSU I think that they should be able to dunk it all they want. Whats the point of laying it up when you can dunk anyways??</div>Alright, this has been a big discussion between me and several people on AIM already so let me just state my feelings in here. The game was almost out of Michigan State's hands. They were down by somewhere from twelve to seventeen points and Miles would steal the ball. It would be three Kansas players and no Michigan State players running back. The ball would go to Giddens and he would do a dunk-contest type dunk. I have no problem with dunking and taking it strong to the rack, but when you have such a padded lead and all your team back but nobody from the opposing team back a layup will do or even just a little tap dunk. I am all in-favor of dunking in college basketball as long as it is used as a way to get the ball in the basket forcefully rather than a way to taunt the opposing team which is how Kansas used it.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting goNBAjayhawks:</div><div class="quote_post">I dont think Bill Self told his players to dunk and then taunt, i think it was more giddens trying to make a big impression in his first national game and with the atmostphere might have gone over the top with some post dunk stuff, but really there was nothing fancy about any of the dunks.</div>

I would have just liked to see Bill Self set an example and take Giddens aside then tell him to cut the crap.

When I play, I don't care who is there, I am sending it down as hard as I can, every single time. That is a part of basketball. Then why not just ask the fans to sit down and be quiet the entire game then?

Have at it, show some emotion! Thats what I want to see.

When two top college teams are playing the game is never out of anyone's hands until the buzzer buzzes at the end of the game.

Perfect example, a few years ago Duke played Maryland, both schools were nationall ranked high. Duke comes back to score something like 9 points, in 39 seconds or something along those lines.

I just don't consider a 15-20 point lead coming out of halftime as a lead that the other team cannot come back to considering that both of the teams are good basketball teams.

Great point, another good example is the NCAA championship game a few years back when Arizona had Duke down by almost 20 then Duke rallied to win. You can never be sure when playing with top ranked teams when the game is over which is why that the dunking is not a big deal because they are trying to dishearten the other team and make them think the game is over. Like I said if it is a small, horrible D1 school down 40 points then that stuff is wrong but go for the throat if it is a team like MSU or Kansas.
