The bad news is that other teams around us have, over the course of the season, been more consistent. There is a very rational concern that we're just beating up bad teams. Just because we've won 6 in a row doesn't mean we're going to win the next 6 in a row, and then the 12 after.... How we're playing now DOES matter, but the end of the season is still 19 games away. A lot can and will happen in that time.
I agree. I don't expect us to win another 6 in a row just because we just did. However I think we are a better team now then the one who lost 4 games in a row at home in the way we did in early december. A lot has happened, and as you said, will continue to happen. Which is why I don't give much credence to the stat you provided.
I’m with you on there being a lot of season left, but I don’t quite get the line about beating up bad teams in the six game winning streak. Golden State started it off. Two of the other teams the Blazers beat (OKC and Min.) are currently in the playoff bracket and the Jazz had been the hottest team in the league, having won 11 in a row before the Blazers beat them. I don’t see how you can discount the quality of the opposition during this streak.
It just goes to show that every game really is important. Im sure looking back at our schedule it would be easy to pick out 3 or so games that we really should have won and that would make a huge difference right now. On the flip side I'm sure every team can say the same. But if the Blazers want to take the next step that is the thing to address, especially next year.
Lmao. Why you gotta put the "before you were born"? Yeah, I don't expect us to go 19-0 and the Rockets or Warriors to double their loss total in that span. That's 10 times less likely than a team winning 5 straight and another losing 5 straight. I'm wondering if you made it up though. Proof? We're not getting the 2nd seed. I'd bet my life on it. Don't get carried away.
This logic is flawed. Houston playing Boston and Golden State is a hard 2 games compared to playing Brooklyn and Sacramento.
Beating up on bad teams? We beat gsw. Utah at home, okc and minni. In the last ten games. Hardly beating up on bad teams.
I'm still going with 48 wins and 5th seed. To me that would be a nice position to be in. Either way the second round if they can get that far will be brutal.
Closest I could find is 1992, Knicks were up 5 games with 8 games to go as of 4/3/92. Celtics won 8 straight to win the division.
Pretty sure this is the season he is talking about. I think they actually played each other during that stretch also. Boston won it in a nail biter. Ewing had a great game. Boston was without Bird.
Except they lost 6 in a row at home which was one of the worst streaks in franchise history. It things like that which have me less than convinced they have completely turned a corner. Playing better? Absolutely....but just a few games ago it took a Superman effort by Dame in the 4th to rescue them from....Phoenix.
Apparently, I wasn't clear. I was talking about being 16-21 vs. +.500 teams over the course of the season, and 21-5 vs. -.500 teams - that's beating up on bad teams. We've been playing great lately, and I'm thrilled!!! But...... I have been a blazer homer since the late '80s and there have been many ups and downs during each season. We have 19 games to go, plenty of time for more ups and downs.
I am not saying they are the type of team who you can ever automatically pencil in a win....vs anyone. They still need that 3rd scorer. Just that they are not the same team as in early December. So stats from that time are not as much of a concern.
So we've played 37 games against .500+ teams, and 26 against <.500 teams, yet were beating up on bad teams?
Blazers have 3rd seed and are a full game ahead of the 4th seed. Blazers are ahead of 9th seed by 3 games. Blazers are 5th in the NBA, 1/2 game ahead of the Cavs. Blazers have 12 more wins than losses, which according to @KingSpeed, is the best in the post-Aldridge era. Blazers are 38-26 with a win% of 59.4% If the Blazers continuing at that rate, they finish the season with 49 wins If the Blazers go .500 for the rest of the season, they finish with 47 wins Blazers have 18 games to go. Blazers play the 24-40 Knicks next. The Knicks are currently on a 4-game losing streak. They are playing without KP, who is injured
