    Boston Celtics

The same Sun-Times report says that Butler and Celtics guard Kyrie Irving are continuing to explore ways to play with each other. Boston has several young assets that could intrigue Minnesota, but it’s unclear if the Celtics would be willing to part with them for Butler, since he’s going to be a free agent next summer.

For the Celtics to make a big move, they’d likely have to get some type of assurance from Butler that he’d highly consider re-signing.

    Washington Wizards

The Wizards’ John Wall-Bradley Beal-Otto Porter core probably needs a shakeup if Washington is going to attempt to compete atop the Eastern Conference with Philadelphia and Boston.

Would the Wizards consider moving Beal for Butler if they knew Butler would re-sign? Or would the Timberwolves be interested in a package featuring Porter or Kelly Oubre?

    Portland Trailblazers

The Blazers, like the Wizards, have an All-Star backcourt but not a ton else. They can compete for a playoff spot in the West, but it’s tough to imagine Portland going further than the conference semifinals.

There’s been talk that moving one of Damian Lillard or C.J. McCollum could be in the franchise’s best interest moving forward. Perhaps a McCollum-Butler swap would be considered

Not very often you get a second chance. Too bad CJ's untouchable.

Thibodeau strikes me as about the last coach that would have an interest in CJ.

I'd like Butler. Not gonna happen though.

Last time we played them he said how much he liked Evan Turner...throw him into the deal and Thibs will bite

I don’t even think Butler would help this roster all that much. Sure he’s a + defender but he’s also just another ball stopper and much less of a playmaker than CJ. CJ dribbles and struggles with tunnel vision often, but he can at least score in multiple ways. Has always seemed to me like Jimmy Butler is addicted to long twos and plays with his back to the basket way too much. Maybe the numbers say otherwise but that’s just what I’ve thought for a while.

I don't want to trade CJ within the division lol.

For Jimmy Butler I'd jump at the deal...Townes was rumored to want out of Minny as well

Only if he signs an extension. Not worth it for a one year rental.

Have we learned nothing from the Paul George saga? Sometimes you just have to shoot your shot and hope for the best.

The last Blazer who bailed on the team stayed here 9 years....other guys seem to want to stick around

I’d rather try to get KAT from Sora since it’s sounds like Jimmy doesn’t like Karl Anthony towns.

AC Tried but was an RFA who Neil kept. There’s a lot of change over in the NBA, some guys come to Portland and like it I’m sure some guys can’t wait to get out too. Everybody is different.

It'd be short sighted to assume that every player now will act like PG13. If you think Butler is frustrated with the Timberwolves lack of moves could you imagine him dealing with NO who signed Stauskas as our first signing of the year? lol

I assume nothing. I simply want them to try to get the best players/team possible and do as much as possible to get them to want to stay, hopefully involving winning games.

I get that--if we did get Butler I'd be all in--but the entire year I'd be worried about him leaving haha

Trading CJ is a lateral move. Blazers and Wolves still get stuck in same area if Butler and CJ switch places.

If I'm Wizards, I'd offer Porter instead - which if I'm the Wolves, I'd take that over CJ as part of a re-tool phase around Wiggins-KAT. Likewise with Celtics, who can offer Brown and/or Smart.

    Only he's not.

The Blazers would trade CJ for equal or greater value if it would improve the team, but the Blazers aren't going to trade him for shit just to make you happy.

I'd be all in on trading CJ for Butler. But would Minny, and are there better offers out there that fits Minny's needs better?

CJ + Turner for Butler? That's fair.

False. Butler would help this team much more than CJ does (assuming NO would get a REAL backup PG).
